Addo Main Rest Camp is a popular main rest camp of the park and offers a wide variety of accommodation units to suit all tastes as well as plenty of activities to keep visitors busy. A unique feature is the waterhole lookout point within the camp, floodlit at night, and the underground hide allowing close encounters with wildlife at the waterhole.
Evenings are punctuated with the call of lions, spotted hyenas and jackals, while francolin and bokmakieries herald each dawn. Accommodation units are situated within easy walking distance of each other and facilities including a swimming pool, restaurant and shop.
Activities available include game drives, horse trails, 4x4 trails, hiking trails, and marine eco tours.
The climate is temperate to hot and temperatures in summer (November to February) may reach over 40 degrees Celsius. Winter days are mild but cold at night with frost occurring at times. The average annual rainfall is 450 mm and is spread throughout the year, although peaks do often occur in February/March and October/November.
Other useful information at this rest camp:
- Some loops of the tourist roads in the park are tarred while the others are graveled. The gravel roads are in good condition and can be accessed with a normal vehicle, but these may be closed in very wet weather. The main entrance road into the park is tarred.
- Vehicle fuel is available in all parks (or is available on the park periphery).
- Insect repellent is recommended, especially in summer.
- No immunisations are needed for travel to the park as it is situated in a malaria-free area.
PLEASE NOTE: the rates are subject to the number of adults and children staying. Quotes will include the 1% Community Levy, but will exclude daily conservation fees, which are to be paid directly to camp on arrival.

"The excellent view from the safari tent with game grazing in the valley below. Everything was clean, comfortable and in place."
"The forest hut was not too clean. I moved the bed to pick up something that I dropped and was disgusted to see old tissues, sweet papers and loads of dust!"
"Of the 6 cooking stoves in the caravan rest camp only one was functional. Also the Hydroboil hot water systems were out of order."
"Restaurant service shocking. but loved our stay and the park"
"Cheaper conservation fee"
"Always good to stay at the Addo friendly staff and always relaxing"
"Awesome experience. Loved waking to the sound of the animals.Only down side is the camp sites could be bigger."
"IT was an enjoyable staying. Chalets are very nice."
"Accommodation was great and generally the park was excellent."
"Our family of four stayed in a forest cabin. They are cute and lovely, and the shared kitchen facility is clean and well equipped. Each cabin is surrounded by bushes, so it's quite private. The cabins come with fridges, cooking equipment, and small bathrooms.<div><br /></div><div>Although we had a lovely 2 night stay, I wouldn't recommend a forest cabin for four for a longer stay as it would be too cramped.</div>"
"Chalets clean but would have like a kitchen outside like the Kruger. Cattle Baron excellent restaurant."
"Addo, what a pleasant surprise,we enjoy our camping, the restaurant and the wildlife"

"Addo was a definite highlight on our roadtrip and worth spending more than one night. Our safari tent was clean, neat and spacious. We had a lovely view on a watering hole from our stoep. The park's staff was very helpful and friendly. The communial bathrooms and kitchen was always clean and in working condition."
"Everything was fine, as always!"
"We enjoyed our stay in Addo very much. It would have been perfect if the chalet had a view over the beautiful park. For the rest full marks to Addo and its staff."
"Excellent. Clean. Well run. Friendly staff. Better than Kruger on service etc. We booked excellent Sorita Spier ...find on line...to guide us round."
"Very comfortable and well fitted out chalet. Saw elephants from our balcony."
"We stayed in Cottage 50 and everything was fine. We especially enjoyed the quiet evenings, with the only sounds being that of the veld. However, the one thing we found irritating is the music in the dining area, and terrace. It was too loud and intrusive. It should be turned down and there should be a part, our suggestion being the terrace, where there is no music and guests can simply enjoy the quiet of the location."
"We enjoyed every moment of the stay."
"Our stay at Addo was fantastic. The cottage was perfect, neat, clean and comfortable."
"A marvelous experience. We saw all that we had been led to expect and indeed more in the shape of a pride of lions up close. The guides were knowledgeable, effective and friendly. Our only slight moan was the accommodation. It was very basic and cold. The relatively few more comfortable and better sited cabins were all taken. Investment in more of these would almost certainly pay off."
