Bergville Caravan Park and Chalets

Bergville Caravan Park and Chalets is situated on the foothills of the Drakensberg, on the banks of the Tugela River. It offers guests a choice of staying in one of the fully equipped Chalets, Park Homes, Rondavels or Campsites.

Each Chalet is furnished with a double bed, two single beds and has a private bathroom with a shower. The kitchens are fully equipped with stoves, ovens, microwaves, fridges, tea and coffee facilities and TVs. Three of the Chalets also have lounge areas where guests can relax.

The Park Homes are furnished with double beds and have fully equipped kitchens and private bathrooms, while the Rondavels are furnished with single beds and also have private bathrooms, but there are no kitchens. For the campers, there is a choice of 40 sites, 20 of which offer electrical points. The Campsites share the use of an ablution block which has showers and baths.

The caravan park offers a variety of entertainment such as trampolines, a swimming pool, tennis courts and a bowling green. A coffee shop and a nursery are also located on the premises and the resort is available for weddings, conferences and other private functions.

As the property is located next to a river, it is ideal for canoeing and fishing. Some of the most picturesque hiking trails can be found at Cathkin Park, Cathedral Peak, Champagne Castle, Oliviershoek and Royal National Park Mount Aux Sources. Various historical monuments can also be visited in the area.The R74 is currently under construction.

"1. Advertised as "fully equipped".....but no towels, we went to PEP stores and bought four the next day.2. We were told to let the owner/manager know when we leave Harrismith, which we did. On arrival the young man that gave us the key first had to verify with her that we have paid and only on entering the chalet was the geyser switched on.3. There are roadworks in progress past the park entrance. The access to the newly surfaced road is blocked accross with paving panels and once that hurdle was overcome then a 210lt tar drum was placed in the centre of the parks entrance. I drive a R1,9m Rang Rover, I tend to be carefull over what I drive. By the time we figured out that we actually have to enter the blocked off road and that nobody is going to arrest me for that I have driven around trying to find an alternative entrance. I am sure management could have given us a "heads up" to how to get past the roadworks to the gate.4. The owner/manager owns two chocolate labradors. They bark for any reason whatsoever, at any time of the night for as long as they like.5. Check-out this morning went smooth. There was no-one around so we left the key in the chalet and left.6. Not once during our stay did we even detect the presence of the owner/manager except for Johan who helped us on Friday night.Will I be back? No, never."

"We had a pleasant stay, although the Caravan Park and Chalets have seen better days, I suppose. The only negative is that they were not ready for us when we arrived, even though we arrived more than an hour later than the check in time."

"The access road to the resort is pathetic. After the rains we had on the 24th of March, I got stuck when I wanted to leave the resort. I had to get 1 of the other campers to assist me, with a 4x4, to get to the main road.The ablution facilities are near standard:The showers is not hygienicly clean.The water supply to the showers is poor.The power supply to caravan park is unsafe as there is no door on the Distribution Box.The caravanpark is covered in darkness during the night.One cannot walk bare foot on the supposed lawn in the caravan park, as covering is more paper thorn than grass."

"Elise from Bergville Caravan Park and Chalets called me the day before we were supposed to check in to advise that she had ongoing construction at her premises and that she had moved us to Tozer's B&B. Even though Tozer's host, Cynthia Tozer, did what she could to help us out, we were not happy with the fact that what we had paid for at the Bergville Caravan Park and Chalets was not offered at Tozer's B&B ie. a fridge, a microwave, a stove. This is important to us as we prefer to cook and should we get takeaways, have the means to refrigerate and warm up the next day. My rating will therefore be on Tozer's but might be a little biased due to the fact that we were disappointed with the move made by Elise"

"After staying in glorious backpackers all the way from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town and through the Karoo back to Durban, this was our last stop. What a disappointment! At the same rate as all the others we enjoyed, this accommodation was NOT value for money. The rooms were clean enough but lacked any of the pride, care and attention to detail we had enjoyed across our travels. Blinds falling off the windows, a shower that wouldn't work and a general feeling of neglect hanging over the place. Would not recommend it and wish we had stopped anywhere else!"

"We arrived early afternoon and found a beautiful site under the trees looking onto the old unused train bridge. A small braai and dustbin was brought down to us by a very helpful worker. Ablutions clean, very quite surroundings ensured we had a peaceful overnight stay."

"We made a reservation for two days following our holiday in Kwazulu Natal. We arrived to a place thatwas not suitable for anybody to sleep in. Bathroom was not up to standard and very dirty. No room was near the pictures on their website and our neighbours was just as disappointed as they also booked on the web looking at the pictures. The dubble bed was in a bad state and we could not sleep on it at all. We left very early the next morning. Very bad experience and we strongly do not recommend this place. "

"Double bed is so uncomfortable you cannot sleep on it. The one side is flat and the other side has a big lump. One thing for certain after a days traveling you really want to sleep well. Poor security measures in place."

"What an awful place, we found the place to be dirty, old un-ironed bedding, a blanket that I would use for my dogs and not for any human, totally awful. Dirty carpets. We didn't stay left the place immediately. Could not sleep there.Will not ever recommend this place."

"Drove in and straight out forfeiting my deposit. Totally unsecure and a general dump overall. I do not think our possession's would have been there in the morning (assuming my family would have been there either!!). Drove from JHB so had to check in to another resort."

"The place is an absolute SHOCKERand should be closed down....I booked a month ago and we were really looking forward to it. We travelled from Johannesburg(4 hours)and my family never got out the car, the place looked like a war zone, the ablution facilities were absolutely disgusting and there was no security at all....We were lucky to get into Dragon Peaks which was only 40KMs down the road...Do not be impressed with the photos on the web site!!!!"
