Rocky Pools

Rocky Pools is a tastefully designed beach house boasting unobstructed views and an uncluttered interior befitting the ideal beach holiday. As the name suggests, Rocky Pools is protected from the ocean by a buffer of jagged rock pools and coastal fynbos vegetation. A short stroll to the left leads to Penguin Point and its population of quirky birds, while an amble to the right lands you on Bettys long moody beach.

The prime setting is enhanced with a shady verandah equipped with lime-washed furniture, and a sheltered barbecue area built around the local rock. Stepping through the wide glass sliding doors, the interior is spotless and the fittings and fabrics tastefully co-ordinated. Persian rugs, down lighting, DStv and a dishwasher lend a definite luxurious touch.

The main bedrooms are en-suite and have wide ocean views from their queen-size beds, while the open-plan living area is spacious and conducive to a very sociable weekend, combining a lime-washed country kitchen, a long dining table and comfy couches set around a massive hearth for those dark and stormy nights.

Activities in the area include the Harold Porter Botanical Garden with its walking trails and tea garden, Stony Point penguin colony, a sure-fire winner with children, and the Kogelberg Nature Reserve offering a number of hiking trails and incorporating both coastline and mountain terrain. In addition, the Palmiet River and lagoon lie at the heart of the Kleinmond Coastal Reserve and are a good site for swimming and canoeing.

"Beautiful house in a dream setting. The perfect way to relax away from the city."

"Our stay was lovely. There really isn't anything that they could've done to make it any better. Michelle is lovely and assisted us quite late in the evening when we had a minor issue with the alarm. The house is really nicely designed and maintained very well. The view is also amazing and the penguins are walking distance."

"First and foremost, please let me say that my family and I enjoyed our stay at Rocky Pools. The view off of the spacious back porch and the warmth of the fireplace at night were indeed charming. The house is well-designed and spacious - our family of 5 fit brilliantly. The owner was gracious and polite about our arrival and assisted when the alarm went off.<div><br /></div><div>However, there are a few matters that could be improved. The cleanliness level of the home was simply unacceptable upon our arrival. The washing machine was dirty, the floors were not mopped, and the sheets on the beds were a bit damp. The braai is beautiful, but the provided grids are old and extremely dirty, and made of low-quality metal. The children's bedroom smelled of sewage and it was impossible to eradicate this smell. The fireplace did not draft well - sending smoke into the house from time to time on even a small fire. The kitchen was poorly appointed - not even salt - and the dishes were quite dirty. The mattresses were thin and of lower quality, as was the linen. The owner asked us to contact the alarm company and to request them to service a faulty setting - not expected at all in a rental. The back door locks with an ugly chain and hasp system. All of these things, to some extent, are to be expected in a beach house, but for the price of the rental (especially relative to the general middle-income neighborhood) I would have expected a spotless home with high-quality trappings. For comparison, we paid much less for a 2-bedroom apartment in the heart of Cape Town with top-notch appointments on the same trip. I liked the house overall, but we saw some comparably priced homes in better areas along the neighboring coast that were more secluded. It is unlikely I'd return in the future unless these many minor issues were fixed.</div><div><br /></div><div>ESTABLISHMENT RESPONSE:</div><div><br /></div><div><div>Dear Jonah</div><div>Thank you for your feed back, always appreciated.</div><div>Re the alarm, this is a problem with Safe security and have addressed this with the company. Unfortunately when the alarm is set off the guest needs to call to cancel the security coming out. We will readdress this situation with the company as I agree, unacceptable</div><div>The rattling door, we will definitely sort this out. Apologies for this</div><div>The floor unfortunately is wear and tear as is a crete stone floor. We are in the process of replacing this floor with wooden floors. Will be completed by end September.</div><div>The bedding I use is 200% Cotton percale, pillows and bedding replaced annually. This complaint I cannot understand.</div><div>The mattresses had 20 year warranty and are prob approx 12 years old, noted though and will replace these shortly.</div><div>The sewage smell in the children's bedroom is perplexing! Why not the rest of the house?Probably the kelp which is a sea side aroma</div><div>Dirty dishes? Never have I had such a complaint Please do send photos if you have?</div><div>I do not understand the washing machine being dirty? Please explain.</div><div>I actually have no words regarding this criticism. Even the building is criticized. Windows, etc</div><div>Never before have we had a complaint of the fireplace smoking. The chimney is large and it is almost impossible for it to smoke.</div><div>The house is fully self catering, this means you bring everything you need. However, I will supply salt in future. Cleaning materials are supplied for dish washer, etc.</div><div>Braai grids will most definitely be replaced, this is also done annually.</div><div>The cleaning staff called in to let me know that the house was left in the most horrendous mess. I had new guests arriving and it took the 4 staff 6 hours to clean. New guests extremely happy.</div><div><br /></div><div>Our aim is to have happy guests and I am so sorry that Jonah was so unhappy. Thank goodness 99% of our guests are satisfied.</div><div>Many thanks for this opportunity.</div><div>Kind regards</div><div>Michelle</div></div>"
