Potteberg Guest Farm offers visitors cottage-style accommodation on a working farm, which is situated on the boundary of the De Hoop Nature Reserve.
The self-catering flat has a private entrance and a lovely en-suite double room. Linen and towels are provided. The kitchen is fully equipped but delicious farm-style meals can be served on request. There are braai facilities with wood provided for great South African cuisine. The farm house is surrounded by a beautiful garden for a relaxing time in the warm sun.
A highlight for our guests is a tour of the farm in Niel's 'bakkie' with chance viewings of eland, as well as large flocks of blue crane or a Cape Griffon vulture soaring overhead. We farm with wheat , sheep , ostrich and a dairy.
The farm is the ideal base from which to explore De Hoop Reserve and to participate in local activities such as whale watching, mountain biking, hiking, snorkeling, game viewing and birdwatching.
We have recently added a bird hide, giving our guests a chance to enjoy the bird life up close. Look out for sightings of Cape Griffon vultures, blue crane and the Augulhas Clapper Lark, amongst others.
The road south from Bredasdorp takes one to the historic village of Kassiesbaai at Arniston/Waenhuiskrans, and further to Cape Agulhas the southernmost tip of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet.
"We loved our stay. Accommodation is neat, clean and offers everything you need. Niel, the owner is super friendly and delivers fresh milk from the dairy in the morning. We will be going back. Thanks Niel and Saartjie<br />"
"The spacious self-catering cottage provides every comfort on a working farm with sweet smelling milk cows, plump geese & grain fields. The adult eland that grazed in front of our verandah was an awesome bonus as were the chickens & many birds in our garden. The walk over rolling hills on the farm to the two bird hides rivalled De Hoop Nature Reserve. Vultures, eland, buck & even found 2 unattended ostrich eggs were a few of the surprises we saw.Altogether a most enjoyable weekend."
"We really enjoyed our stay at Potteberg Guest Farm, the tranquillity and peace was just what we needed. We received a warm welcome from Saartjie and Niel, which made us feel at home. The cottage was lovely and well equipped with everything we needed. This is a lovely place away from the hustle and bustle of city life, it was just a pity we couldn't stay longer."
"Our goal was to visit the De Hoop Nature Reserve but stay overnight outside the park for reasons of economy. Our stay at the Potteberg Guest Farm, which is just 15 km from the reserve, turned out to be very nice. Although our host was busy, Mrs. Neethling greeted us in a friendly way explaining the features of the accommodation and telling us about the hiking trail on the farm. Our accommodation was very well furnished and tastefully decorated, even including fresh roses in two rooms. (The only thing we missed was a shower in the bathroom.) The comfortable chairs and good lighting provided for our relaxation in the evening, while the excellent double mattress helped our weary bodies to sleep. We found the accommodation to be very good value for money. There are a number of trees and birds clustered around the yard, so in good weather it would be great to relax outside or have a braai. When we decide to visit De Hoop again, perhaps hoping for better weather, we will very likely want to return to Potteberg. We have to add that Safarinow.com did a faultless job in arranging our stay."
