  • "The tranquility"

    16 April 2018

"We enjoyed the calm environment and that we were far from the city. We firstly had to put the single beds together because there no double beds in the rooms. I was also disappointed that we were a couple of 3 but there were only 2 bedrooms in the chalet we booked even though I informed the owner that there are 3 couples coming. The other beds were next to the stairs with no privacy whatsoever. Overall, the lodge was okay."

  • "A letdown I am afraid."

    18 March 2018

"The security is a major concern. We were locked up the entire weekend in a camp compound without keys to get in and out. I asked about a gamedrive and was told there would be one the following day - nobody arrived and an sms sent to ask if we could drive to the hide went unanswered and we remained locked in with nothing to do. We just lay on our double bed. We saw three wildebeest walk past the compound. It was a little strange frankly. Such a pity as driving there it seemed the area was beatifull. The owners were very friendly when we arrived but we never saw them again untill we had to call the day we left to try and get out of the locked compound. We sort of felt like prisoners. The chalet was tidy and clean but not well appointed. No cutting knife and very little crockery. We could not wait for the weekend to end and were so looking foward to a lovely bush weekend :("

  • "Exceptional Game Lodge"

    13 November 2017

"The Lodge is clean & tidy. The owners are very friendly & their hospitality were awesome. The atmosphere at this Lodge is pure tranquility, you become one with nature, no distractions and a peaceful rest. Although some additions to this Lodge would make travelers stay more convenient, clock radio in each room, laundry basket. At the pool area a lounge with a big screen TV for those sports enthusiasts, who love to watch rugby."

  • "The place us beautiful"

    30 August 2017

"But the owner or caretaker is rude and he doesn't know how to speak to ppl he kept shouting and shouting at us while he fail to give the rules of the place.even he first day on our check we came late and he was rude on the phone and he hang up on my ear even when we leave he refuses to open the gate demanding that we pay extra.I will never go back to that place I was so uncomfortable the whole weekend of my staying and I will never recommend it to anyone"

  • "Peace and quiet!"

    12 July 2017

"We loved the peace and quiet of the lodge and were surprised that this tranquility exists so relatively close to Pretoria. The fact that only two of the chalets/houses were occupied contributed to this. It is obvious that the new owners are working hard to get this establishment in tip-top condition and we really hope it works out for them. The only negative comment I do have is that you have to ask the manager to unlock gates for you, although I understand the security situation."

    08 October 2016

"We were pleasantly surprised by our accommodation, not only decorative, but well stocked with everything one might require or need.<br/><br/>The new Owners, Bertus, Landie, their daughter Elanda, and the caretaker, Hendrik, were great hosts and went out of their way to make our stay and memorable one. <br/><br/>We would definitely recommend Mountain Mala to anyone wanting a quiet break away from the hustle and bustle of Urban living without having to travel too far.<br/><br/>Colin and Tracy"

  • "Great Ladies getaway"

    22 September 2016

"We had a great weekend ever, but if they can check the fridge in room 4 is not working properly. If they can install Wi-Fi and TV. We enjoyed our stay 2 fullest and game driver was exciting. Thanks to Hendrick and Michelle. Maybe if the can install Jacuzzi as well. The rooms were very clean and neat."

  • "DISAPPOINTED"

    16 August 2016

"I wont lie, at first when i checked in it was ok until on Saturday when i forgot to close the Gate i was told i will be killed and this old man i thought he was sweet and all turned to be opposite on Saturday, couldn't even do the Game drive, i even checked out before time which means i dint even sleep at the lodge on that Saturday, he was very rude, screaming and pointing at me.....the treatment i got in 2012 was way 1st class to what i got now, i am extremely Disappointed as i chose this place knowing it well"

  • "8 July 2016"

    11 July 2016

"We stayed at the small cottage and I had to ask for a grid and an blanket, which the caretaker then took from one of the other chalets - not sure what he would have done if they were booked as well. There was no egg lifter and only the basic utencils. The chalets do not entertain privacy as they are all on top of each other and the caretaker - a very unfriendly person - is always appearing. The birdlife is abundant, however, stay away from the hide as it not well kept nor is there place to sit.Easy drive from JHB. We won't be back!"

  • "Lovely Place - Terrible reception by caretaker"

    04 July 2016

"<p>What a cozy little place, perfect for a get away but if you are expecting to be greeted by friendly folk rather stay away. </p><p>A perfect idea for the people who created it but the caretaker allows you no privacy and is not only unfriendly but totally rude to say the least. in Afrikaans I would call him a grompot! They will sadlynever see us again, it is terrible being made to feel so unwelcome when you are actually paying for a room.</p><p></p>"

  • "Relaxing"

    20 December 2014

"It is the second time at the lodge and always peaceful and quiet. Was booked in a room with no bath and it after requesting one was moved immediately to another. Great hospitality and care. Thanks for that."

  • "Good place to be and relax a mind"

"It was a well weekend spent with friends after a long time of seeing each other will recommend that place to anyone need to relax. The atmosphere is good."

  • "Bitter Sweet"

    17 February 2014

"Mountain Mala is a beautiful place and the peacefulness gives it a romantic setting. I do have some critique, their website is misleading and uninformative. The pool is to close to the Large Chalet (Chalet 5) and we felt that to some guests it would seem that the pool is only for that chalet. If the pool was in a more central area it would have been better. The surrounding bush veld is beautiful, unfortunately they do not advise guests that the viewpoints and river is only accessible by means of 4x4 or at least 4x2. The view point is a walking distance away but the river is too far. Besides the few things is it a perfect place for a romantic getaway. We will be returning."

  • "Stunning views"

    06 January 2014

"Not what I expected. Housekeeping could do a better job at keeping the rooms clean. Our room looked like it had not been used in a while as there was dust and dead insects everywhere. We had to ask housekeeping to clean specific areas of the room. Also, as a self catering place, one would expect to find the most basic things in the kitchen which were lacking. We also had to ask for a curtain or blinds as the glass door did not have one and one could see the inside of the room from the outside. The only thing that we enjoyed was the game drive and the breathtaking views!"

  • "Lovely stay"
