  "Excellent half way stop between Johannesburg and Cape Town. the N12 is perhaps a bit futher than the N1, but Rooidam Cottage is worth the trip! Would actually love to stay there for a weekend.True karoo hospitality, convienient and there is an honesty to the place that that bring back memories of yesterday. They have managed to capture modernday convienice with the building style and decor of yesteryear. Place is a gem!"

  "Andre and Bonquet are extremely friendly, and immediately available at all times. Frequent communication by Andre via SMS was very helpful. The accommodation was well equipped, including microwave, 2-plate stove, and tea/coffee with rusks. The orange, naartjie, and lemon trees had plentiful fruit which we were repeatedly invited to take. The campsites looked pleasant with their own ablutions, and room for trailers. The cottage we booked had a problem with the geyser before our arrival, so we were switched to the apartment. It's about 1 km from the highway, so no traffic noise in the still Karoo nights."

  "The cottage was ideal at the end of a long day's drive. Two windmills quietly turning as we sank into the very comfortable mattress. Bonquet and Andre' were superb hosts, everything we required was available and they offered much more! Beautiful garden & grounds, ducks/ ducklings, kittens, many sheep, no large dogs (that was nice) and they are in the process of developing amazing caravan parking facilities away from the cottages. A must for a weary traveller, if we had the time we would have spent another night. Well done, Bonquet & Andre', you were great....."

The host, Frans, was friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed exploring the farm and eating oranges straight from the trees.<div><br /></div><div>We would love to return, but will double check that weactually stay in a cottage rather than the apartment. There was only a door and dry walling separating us from the owners house, so we did not have a quiet evening or night as the family were preparing/packing for a trip and there was no sound barrier. (And early evening 2 young guys just walked in through the door! Frans gave us thekey to ensure that we lock it from inside to prevent it from happening again)</div><div><br /></div><div>That said, the cottages looked absolutely ideal, so next time we will ask to stay in a private setting.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>"

Early morning walks through the veld with the Clapper Larks rising and whistling around one, and hot midday swims in a real concrete farm dam made this an authentic Karoo experience.   "We loved it so much, we returned there on our way back from our African trip.One cannot ask for better in transit accommodation. The Rath family went out of their way to make us feel welcome and indeed we did. Andre, despite an obvious hard day working the farm, still took the trouble to take us all on a drive to view the farm and a herd of Gemsbok, which we enjoyed very much. Also took us for a walk through a lovely orchard and allowed us to pick citrus fruit fresh from the trees. How lovely. Also gave usearly morning coffee with home-baked rusks. In addition Andre also allowed us to pick up lovely walnuts, as many as we liked. I can promise you this much - Should we happen to travel that road again, I will stay nowhere else, but with Andre and his good wife at their farm Rooidam. I can highly recommend this night-stop to all and sundry.It does not get any better. Thanks once again Andre and Mrs Raath for your wonderful kindness and hospitality. Wish you well for your future endeavours."
