Smartt Guesthouse is a small and friendly guest house ideally located on the N12 between Gauteng and Cape Town, making it an ideal stopover location. The guest house is under new ownership since April 2013 and is situated next to Quest Service Station.
The owners, Francois and Kotie see to the day to day running of the guesthouse as well as the Pub and Grill on the premises.
There are four twin or double rooms available as well as a family room. Safe parking is available as well as a swimming pool area that is still under renovation.
"The establishment is run down and is in need of some serious refurbishment."
"Friendly, secure, clean and good food"
"I booked the place for one night, when we got there, there was know person in site, we almost waited for 2 hours before someone arrived, to help us, it was dirty there and we didn't even stay there, we had to find a other place to stay for the night, the guesthouse isn't at all what they say it is.Never again. Safarinow I think you must take them of your site because it gives you a bad name.I dont want to give any stars because it doesn't deserve any stars, but to submit I had to."
"I was insured by Francois that the noise from the pub would be no problem for us in our room but at 22h00 upto about 23h30 the people were talking and swearng so loud with music that were just as loud that I was woked up and could not sleep again for the rest of the night and the worst of this Francois was part of this abusing language This guesthouse is part of a filling station so there was also the whole night big Trucks arriving and leaving which made sleeping even further impossibleI cant think that Safari Now are promoting this place as a place for their clients to stay : But I for sure will never stay there again"
"Lovely food (best steak I had since 2003), very friendly people, lovely fireplace, heater and electric blanket in the room. The only jarring note was the blood on the curtain in the room."
"roomy accommodation friendliness"
"Place are very bad. Not worth to stay there. Cocroatches and ants full in the place. All the wood on the walls full of insects. Tv bad. Bathroom fulthy, not clean and tiles dirty. No door on toilet. How can you place your name on this place. Dog hair on the furnicher. Dog lying on the furniture, in the eating hall, in the kitchen. Dog goes where the owner goes."
"Kamer het 'n nuwe aircon gehad, die matras was gedaan en die linne was nie skoon nie. Die gasheer baie vriendelik en hulpvaardig. Die kroeg teenaan gastehuis is gerieflik na n lang reis.Lekker etes en billike pryse. Op die eerste oogopslag was ek skepties, maar vir die prys is dit net die bed wat teleur gestel het."
"1. Eienaar was baie gasvry en hulpvaardig.2. Dit was te warm vir 'n duvet en daar was ongelukkig nie 'n laken behalwe die paslaken op die matras nie.3. Met die ho kalkgehalte van die water, het die krane nie almal baie spoggerig gewerk nie!!4. Ons sal egter weer van Smartt gebruik maak as ons in daardie geweste akkommodasie soek."
"I only stayed for a night on my way home from the Cape. The landlord was friendly and helpful, the bedding clean and the room equipped with everything I required for a short stay."
"Stunning place for an overnight, very friendly and welcoming people."
"Francois is a wonderful host. The rooms are comfortable and we were lucky to have a portable air conditioner in ours. Dinner in the adjacent pub was prepared by Francois and was ver tasty"
"What a lovely place. When we first got there we were a bit sceptical, but once we went inside and met the owner, we found out what a lovely gem this was. Our host was very accomodation and friendly and after a long drive from Pretoria we could relax at the bar, have a wonderful meal and sleep comfortably. Definitely great value for money. I highly recommend this guesthouse"
"Clean, comfortable and affordable accommodation. Only I had to asked for soap, as none were provided beforehand. Supper was excellent."
"The rooms are clean and have all that is required for an overnight stay in Britstown. The fan was lovely and the little battery operated light a sign that the owner has an eye for small details like power outages. The small and characterfilled pub and grill is definately a plus. Whilst cooling down with an ice cold beer in the air conditioned pub, other guests staying over in other establishments in town came for drinks and dinner and I was grateful I could just walk through the courtyard to get to my room. The backpackers room is great value for money."
"The owners are friendly and the bedding and towels clean, but the rest of the experience was disappointing. The main light in our room didn't work. There's no air conditioner, and the necessary plug wasn't provided to plug in the fan. The mattress is extremely uncomfortable and due for an urgent replacement. The curtains cant be drawn properly. All the communal areas are smoker-friendly and thus not too friendly for non-smokers. Overall, the guesthouse leaves a run-down impression."
"Clean, comfortable & with warm welcoming hosts, this was an ideal budget stopover between JHB & CT. Also enjoyed a nice breakfast at the restaurant/ pub attached. A little bit noisy on the noisy side since you are very near the N12 & can hear the trucks going past but this should only be a problem for very light sleepers."
