Calvinian Country Lodge and Restaurant

Calvinian Country Lodge and Restaurant is a lovely guest house situated in Calvinia. This attractive Karoo town lies in one of the largest wool-producing districts in South Africa, about halfway between Cape Town and Upington.

We offer four newly constructed rooms, all equipped with en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, panel heaters and bar fridges. All the rooms can sleep three guests comfortably with one double and one single bed in each.

A relaxed atmosphere has been created by allocating the largest possible area to the restaurant. The surrounding waterfalls are amplified by the structures and create a unique ambiance that ensures a memorable experience. Background music is always present and guests can request genres or specific artists. We constantly alter the menu to introduce new dishes ensuring interesting meals that accommodate the palates of all our guests. There is a fully stocked and ready bar for some downtime. Our venue is fully equipped to cater for parties, weddings, conferences and many other functions as well.

The Calvinia Museum, housed in an old Art Deco synagogue on Church Street, focuses on farming, transport and the lifestyle of the early inhabitants. The Tourism Office in the museum arranges guided walking tours of the town's special places of interest. Two trails through the Akkerendam Nature Reserve offer opportunities to admire the lovely flowers found only in this region.

"The rooms are large enough for three adults but the bathroom is not big enough for even one person and need a good clean. The bed is comfortable but the linen is old and totally inadequate for such a cold place. The restaurant is huge but it took them 1 hour 30 mins to serve us and there were only 6 tables! The food was mediocre to say the least."

"Alles is mooi en netjies skoon. Wat sleg is, is die badkamer gedeelte. 1. Die stortkop kan nie verstel nie. 'n Groot persentasie van die water spuit teen die muur en op die krane. Gevolglik is my stort ervaring glad nie goed gewees nie. Kry net 'n stortkop wat kan swiwel 2. Die wasbak waarin ek moes skeer, het slegs 'n warm kraan en is baie klein. Tydens die skeer mors water op die vloer. 3. Die matjie voor die stort is grillerig vuil. Toe ek dit wou wegskuif, was daar water onder die mat. Dis regtig onhigienies."
