Little Acres

Little Acres B&B is centrally situated in the beautiful Champagne Valley in the heart of the Central Drakensberg and adjoining the World Heritage Site.
We are close to the Champagne Sports Resort and Nest Hotel and easily accessed directly from the R600 (the road from Winterton to Champagne Castle and the Monks Cowl Nature Reserve). Safe parking is provided on our 1 1/2 hectare property, which is secured by an unobtrusive electric fence. All our facilities have been renovated recently and we presently have five beautiful, large, double, guest rooms four of which are furnished with king size beds. Single beds can be provided on request and three of the rooms will easily accommodate an extra single bed should a young child accompany you. Four of the rooms have en-suite bathrooms and the fifth has a private, exclusive use, bathroom adjoining the room.  The rooms are all heated and the bathrooms have under floor heating. In our bedrooms, dining and lounge areas smoking is not permitted, but guests are free to smoke outside where ashtrays are provided on the patios. Full English breakfasts (price included in your package) are served, weather permitting, on the patio, which has a stunning view of the mountains, otherwise we will serve you in our dining room.
The delicious breakfasts are prepared and served exclusively by your hosts who take pride in spoiling you and setting the tone for a special day in the mountains. We are very close to all the facilities in the Central Drakensberg. One can spend a day in the World Heritage Site exploring the mountain trails, which range from easy half hour walks to more strenuous hikes, which can take several hours. Alternatively one can participate in the many activities nearby which range from white water rafting (in season), quad bike trails, fly fishing and horseback excursions to golf or bowls. Otherwise gravitate to more sedate activities like browsing at one of the many shops, which cater specifically for the needs of tourists or enjoy a cup of coffee and a meal at one of the excellent catering establishments in the vicinity. Then relax in our lovely garden, enjoy the panoramic view, which is focused on Cathkin Peak and Champagne Castle and extends from Giant's Castle to Arthur's Seat, and watch the sun set behind the majestic mountains of the Drakensberg. You could also wander down to the banks of the Sterkspruit which flows through our property and enjoy a picnic or sundowner. You might even be lucky enough to see a duiker or reedbuck coming to the river for an evening drink.

If you are touring South Africa this is a good destination from which to launch a Drakensberg exploration. Breakfasts are must. Enjoy. Thank You Barry and Trish Gansen,Benadit and Jacob Rangiah"

"Nous avions réservé une chambre avec coin cuisine. La chambre était spacieuse et indépendante. L'accueil des propriétaires a été excellent, de nombreux conseils et informations utiles sur le Drakensberg et une route touristique pour notre étape suivante. Très bons petits-déjeuners avec de délicieux scones."

  • "A haven"

    07 April 2012

"Little Acres is a haven in the Champagne Valley. Our room, with self-catering facilities, was beautifully clean with a delightful garden outlook. We were made particularly welcome by the hostess, Tricia, who was very willing to help in any way - especially facilitating accessing the Internet from her own computer, as Wi-Fi is not available. We would definitely return."

  • "Comfort and convenience"

    26 March 2012

"We travelled from Durban and planned to travel along the Midlands Meander towards the Drakensberg. We stayed overnight in the Berg, and then come back down the Meander the next day for things we missed. So we booked at Little Acres, which accepts one-night stays. This is something not a lot of establishments do. A +1 for that. They're conveniently situated on the R600, close to Dragon's Rest Restuarant and the Thokosizwe Junction, where we had coffee at the one and dinner at the other. In the morning we were presented with a massive, delicious breakfast and after a small chat with Trish, we were on our way back to Durban."

  • "Fabulous, 5 Star"

    08 August 2011

"This is a jewel in the central Drakensberg, where you can absorb the beauty and tranquility of the mountains, but are also just a stone's throw away from everything there is to do. This cosy, tastefully furnished, superb clean cottage, with its fireplace, sets the mood for a perfect getaway. Added to this is the great hospitality, as well as a 5 Star breakfast, which ensured an unforgettable weekend. Barry and Trish, you are for sure going to see us again soon. You gave us a lifetime of memories."

"I would highly recommend Little Acres to anyone looking for a relaxing, well serviced stay in the magnificent berg. The thoughtful touches such as the fresh flowers and home made crunchies in the rooms, to the warmth and friendliness of the hosts, Trish and Barry, make the stay as magical as its surroundings. The unique country breakfast is also not to be missed."
