The Gollege

The Gollege is situated in Clansthal on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast and offers a quaint, private thatched cottage, catering for one or two people. The large, park-like garden boasts beautiful sea views and the cottage features an en-suite bathroom and DStv. After a peaceful nights sleep, a full continental-style breakfast awaits.

The history of The Gollege is an interesting one. It is a self-standing cottage built near an old farmhouse, where the fourth generation of the same family live. The Gollege was built in the 1940s for boarding school friends who could not get home for holidays during the war years. Two brothers with the surname Gollege, whose parents lived in India, were regular visitors. Since used as an extra guest room, the name The Gollege has stuck. A bathroom has been added on recently, but the ethos remains the same.

The Gollege is within easy walking distance of the beach, and the Aliwal Shoal diving experience is directly offshore from Clansthal. Five minutes' drive north is the beautiful Umkomaas golf course and six minutes south is Scottburgh, with its famous swimming beach, another golf course and a bowling green.

  • "Quaint and quiet - just what I needed"

    27 May 2014

"Set in a stunning garden, perfect for me-time or a couple's hideaway from the "busyness" of daily life. Hosts Gillian & Gary were superb.I assumed there would be cooking facilities, but Gary lent me their portable braai which solved the problem."

  • "Excellent"

"Peaceful, clean, cosy, comfortable accommodation with really super hosts and beautiful garden. Gorgeous views and just a short trip to Clansthall beach which was litter-free and patrolled. Luscious fresh fruit in well stocked fridge was waiting for us. Well behaved, friendly Great Danes completed the picture."
