"Well this has certainly stretched the definition of "botique". The photographs were probably taken in a bygone era before the place became tired and dirty. We felt the photographs do not accurately depict the current state of the place. The kitchen was dirty with a dishwasher full of dirty dishes and the fridge was dirty and full of aging scraps. The basic appliances such as kettle were not working. We slept there one night and the following morning our group of 12 were 100% in agreement that we needed to leave. We were very fortunate to find alternative accommodation nearby at the last minute. So far we have not received any form refund."

"<span style="color: #333333; font-family: helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11.7px; line-height: 14.04px; background-color: #fff0ce;">The atmosphere is not pleasant as there are domestic issues between the owners. These issues erupted at the bar on the night of our stay, and the argument continued until 2am. The premises as it appears on the website do not reflect its rather rundown state. As regards the room: there was no aircon; only 1 towel was provided; the bedsite table light was not working; the bathroom light was not working.</span>"

  • "Clean, well-designed spaces"

    22 February 2012

"It is a work in progress. The communal kitchen is pretty and functional, and the equipment of good quality. Our room was minimalistic, but delightful. Lindsay has a very good eye, and each item in the room was carefully chosen for its aesthetic appeal as well as its functionality. The communal sitting room is however not very inviting at the moment. I would definitely stay again, and recommend it to anyone who dislikes fussy, frilly interiors."

  • "What a stay"

    09 January 2012

"We were pleasantly suprised to fnd that photos do represent real life. We enjoyed our stay and the boys had fun playing pool and darts, they even challenged me! The house is very comfortable and we had a good night's rest. We will definitely stay over again."

  • "Superb and graet location"

    04 November 2011

"De Rust Boutique Backpackers is a wonderful house in the quite village of De Rust. Our chamber with private bathroom was spacious. The quality and value is fantastic. The large kitchen had absolute everything you needed to cook your own meal and have a good braai on the terrace. The owners were friendly and left us to enjoy our break away. In short, it is a warm and great place to visit Prince Albert, the Swartberg Pass and Oudtshoorn."
