Last Post B&B opened for business in January 2010 and is located in Strathmore Park on the outskirts of Dundee. It is the gateway to the Battlefields. Strathmore Park is a quiet suburb that is close to all the local shops, restaurants, banking facilities and other amenities within the town. Dundee is conveniently situated between Johannesburg and Durban, and close to the Drakensburg Mountains.
In close proximity to Dundee and readily accessible are dozens of battlefield sites from the Anglo Zulu War to the Anglo Boer War and more. In addition, there are also a number of quality game reserves nearby, excellent fishing, bird watching, cycle routes, canoeing, bowls and more. There are also a number of excellent golf courses in the area, including Dundee GC, which is less than five minutes from Last Post B&B.
The accomodation consists of three units, all of which are en-suite and separate from the main house. Two of the units are under a thatched roof. Kudu houses a king size, extra length bed which can be converted into two singles, whilst Buffalo provides twin extra length beds. The third guest unit, the Garden Room, houses a double bed. All rooms are equipped with high quality beds and bedding to ensure the best possible nights sleep. All guest units are equipped with complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, a hair dryer, a digital safe, a cooling fan and a radio. In addition to this Kudu and Buffalo have flat TVs. During winter, all units are also provided with heating and electric blankets.
Adjacent to the guest accomodation is the guest entertainment area which includes a swimming pool and thatched lapa. The lapa houses barbecue facilities, comfortable seating, a trust bar and full DStv. There is ample secure parking located within the property, access to which is via electric gates with a controller that is provided to guests to allow convenient entry and exit. There is Internet access on site that is available for guest to use.
"We arrived at The Last Post at 13h53 to find no-one there, so I called the SafariNow call center to locate the host Norman. They managed to contact him and told me he was on his way, and asked me if I was aware that check-in time was only at 14H00, which I indicated I did. Norman arrived at 14h07 and immediately angrily scolded me for phoning SafariNow and not him, and that check-in time was only at 14h00. When my wife politely informed him that it was then 10 minutes past check-in time, he menacingly approached her and aggressively told her that this was his property and if she had an attitude like that he would throw us off his property. Since we were in a rush to proceed to a function within the next hour, we tolerated his rudeness and checked in. My issue is this - I use the services of accommodation booking sites like SafariNow (and pay a premium for it) to be confident that establishments offered on their site have been pre-screened to ensure that they meet the expected norms of the hospitality industry - particularly punctuality and courtesy. Norman is obviously neither. This was our second stay at The Last Post, and while he was generally "grumpy" during the first stay, he was not down right rude as he was for this stay. He should not be in the hospitality industry with an attitude like this. As a result we will not be visiting this establishment again, despite it being clean, comfortable and providing a good breakfast.. I would value your comments as a accommodation booking site on how you pre-screen establishments to avoid incidents like this - I am quite happy to pay a premium for the services of a site, but expect that establishments you recommend and offer on your site will not result in a stay over being spoilted by a rude host."
"I like cleanliness, owner of the place was very friendly, breakfast was also good. however the place is very cold but heaters in all were not working properly to deal with the weather of that area."
"My clients and I found the B&B clean and comfortable with robust breakfasts and a helpful host in the form of Norman. As a tea drinker I particularly liked the very adequate supply of tea bags and milk in the room as well as the packet of biscuits."
"Excellent service and information about the battlefields, located in quiet neighbourhood giving us a retreat away from the Christmas eve partying going on at home, nice pool for the hot days and still pretty cool inside the room. Excellent for our quick battlefield tour!"
"My wife & I only booked for an overnight stay, as we were on our way back to Pinetown from the Kruger Park. We were the only ones at the Last Post, so our host decided to upgrade our booking from the Garden Room to the Kudu Room. The room was beautifully appointed and obvious care had been taken for every comfort and need to be furnished. Lovely decor, an immaculate garden and a very informative host in Norman. Delicious breakfast cooked by our host. He also recommended us to go to the historic Royal Hotel for our evening meal, and to visit the most interesting Talana Museum the next day on our way back home. He regaled us with details about the various battles and battlefields in the vicinity and we were so interested that we are intending to return to Dundee, and, of course, to the Last Post."
"Our three night stay was a very good visit with a clean and well decorated room. Norman was very helpful in all ways, very knowledgeable in the local area and history it was a pleasure to meet him, Breakfast you could not faultand we would not hesitate to book again."
"We had the use of the Kudu and Buffalo rooms, both exceptionally clean and tidy and fitted out with all that you need. Breakfast was typically English and superbly cooked. The host looked after us very well indeed. I would return!"
"Nice and comfy room.Really made welcome by Norman, who was a wealth of information.Great breakfast, we will go back!"

"Last Post B&B was the perfect choice for my family and I.Norman was most gracious and we felt right at home. Our rooms were equipped with all the necessities and a small touch of the luxurieS.Our breakfast hit the spot - Thank You Norman for being a 5 star host"
"Excellent accommodation - very comfortable, nicely decorated, great value for money, lovely breakfast, perfect location to visit the Battlefields. We went for a tour of the battlefields with Norman (who owns the B&B), which was great value for money and very informative and interesting I would definitely recommend others visit..."
"Great place and superb host."
"Mike and I went to Dundee to explore the battlefields, and this we did. A comfortable bungalow and king size bed did the trick for a good night's rest, so we were well rested each morning and ready for the next day's adventure. Our host, Norman was most helpful over breakfast each morning, (which he prepared himself)and took us on our last tour, which was Isandlwana and Rourks Drift. We will be back!"
"Welcoming, friendly, accomodating host! Comfortable, clean quarters, a very relaxing atmosphere! Thank you for an enjoyable stay!"
"Everything was perfect. Norman and Barbara know how to welcome foreign visitors. The accommodation is very clean and the breakfast was delicious."
"Outstanding hospitality, the most comfotable rooms, very nice, fresh, appetising breakfast that keeps you going the whole day. I would love to go back again. Thumbs up!"
"We enjoyed our stay at ‘Last Post B&B’, our room, food etc. were of high quality!"
"Very warm and welcomıng. The servıce ıs superb. The place is neat and tıdy and very comfortable."
"Our stay at Last Post was truly memorable - not only for the lovely room and the superb breakfast, but also for Norman's knowledgable guided tour to the Battlefields."
"Accommodation was first class. Cleanest crispiest bedlinen. Breaksfast superb. But the (marzipan) icing on the cake was Norman's informed knowledge of the battlefields. Sitting on deckchairs sipping juice with the vista of Isandlwana spread out in front of us - Norman talked us through the battle and (it was like watching a movie) we could almost see the Zulus amassing on the horizon, smell the gunfire and the blood - the magnitude of the slaughter at Isandlwana came alive as each incident as it unfolded everything was recounted in detail. And then on to Rorke's Drift. Norman has an intimate knowledge of, and an obvious passion for his subject - the time spent at the Last Post and the Battlefields was nothing short of memorable. We thoroughly recommend it."
"Barbara and Norman are a lovely couple and helpful in any way. It has a very friendly and familiar atmosphere. The rooms were spacious, clean and fully equipped. Very nice garden with a sundowner corner, swimming pool and there is an extra-ranch TV room with satellite stations. Excellent connection to the Internet. English breakfast of excellent quality."
"A lovely place to stay. The owner gave us a great deal of information on the history of the place. The breakfast was also very nice."
"We had a lovely stay, just too short, with great advice and obvious interest in what we wanted to do in the area. The accommodation had good, clean facilities, lovely linen, a comfortable bed and we had a great breakfast."
"Very enjoyable. Will recommend to all. Excellent breakfast and very friendly atmosphere."
"I would have no problem in recommending the Last Post for anyone going to visit the Battlefields around Dundee. Norman has a wealth of knowledge and insight to the various battles which were fought around that area. Both my son and myself enjoyed our long chats about the area and its history with Norman."
"First class accomodation, friendly hosts, quiet suburb, easy access to town. Good swimming pool and an excellent breakfast. Would strongly recommend."
