  • "The sunset on the private beach that we had all to ourselves."

    04 September 2017

"Its classy accomodation and food in a relaxed, welcoming setting."

  • "The fire that was made in our room while we were at dinner"

    20 July 2017

"I loved this place - it was very well equipped and private and in a great location. The facilities were fantastic. The restaurant and all the people were very friendly. It was a quick drive to Elands Bay where I went surfing."

  • "Draaihoek Lodge - not what it promised to be!"

    26 July 2016

"We booked and paid deposit for the Room or Unit Info: Luxury Manor House (1) on arrival we where met by Marietjie Basson the owner, and put into one of the luxury double en suite. The room was very good with a fire place(but very little wood and the wood was wet), you also had to buy xtra wood if you wanted more...it is winter at the moment... a bar fridge with only water in it. We had no tv in the room and also no wi-fi or even cell phone reception. There was not a bath only a shower and the floors was very cold. No slippers and no gowns. We pick the manor house special because we wanted luxury and space to enjoy the 3 days and relax as if at home and do some planning for a trip later the year to Italy. We could not do any of this because of no internet connections. Staff was friendly and always helpful. Breakfast was good. We had dinner the Friday night, good selection on the menu and overall a good dining experience. We did not find the manager very friendly and helpful. If you want a break from technology this is you place, no view from rooms but if you go over the sand dunes you have a wonderful view and can go for a long walk on the beach. It just did not meet our needs for the weekend as we did not get what we booked for and was promised...."

  • "Gorgeous and romantic"

    03 January 2016

"The setting on the beach is spectacular! The walks on the beach, relaxing pool area and exquisite dining was so relaxing and felt like pure, glorious serendipity! Falling asleep with the sounds of the waves was extraordinary."

  • "Superb"

    09 December 2014

"A unique place in every respect. The huge and clean beach behind the dunes is unforgettable. Spacious and charming accommodation in a beautiful coastal environment. The meals are prepared by the host on the spot; you may bring your own wine."

  • "Stay for 3 days"

    05 September 2014

"It was super clean and luxurious. Food was excellent. Service couldn't be better! A jewel outside a town. The wooden path over the dunes was exciting! We are from Gauteng. If we are ever again in that area we will stay there again for sure."

  • "First rate stay"

    30 August 2014

"The accommodation and food is superb, and the staff are all friendly and helpful. The weather wasn't the best, but it was a great excuse to have the fire roaring in our room, which was a great touch. We stayed in many different places on our three week holiday, and this was one of the best. I would definitely recommend it!"

  • "Draaihoek Lodge Gasvryheid"

    13 May 2014

"Wat n rustige atmosfeer met goeie verblyf, lekker kos, goeie wyn en Weskus-gasvryheid! n Lekker wegbreek om jou batterye te herlaai en te vergeet van die stad se gewoel. Heerlike kaggelvuur in die kamers en n skoon strand wat feitlik jou eie is vir 24 uur van die dag."

  • "Great hospitality"

    03 April 2013

"What an wonderfully quiet and peaceful place. Amazing! High quality, luxurious everything. Especially the staff: very warm, friendly and helpful does not fuLly describe their positive approach. Are telling all our family and friends about it!! Well done Draaihoek!"

  • "Stunning location and a fantastic place to stay"

    24 December 2012

"The lodge is located on a stunning white sand beach which stretches for miles and miles. We were the only people on it. The rooms are luxurious. The food was fantastic. The seafood platter was great value and the wine/beer is cheap. The breakfast was also excellent. The staff are very friendly. They also have a lovely heated outdoor pool to relax by."

  • "Beautiful"

    23 October 2012

"Marietjie and the Draaihoek lodge staff were extremely hospitable. We checked in early and we were accommodated with a great smile. The rooms are stunning and the fireplace worked like a charm!! The food is delicious and the atmosphere in the restaurant is so relaxed and it felt like a home away from home."

  • "Nice"

    10 April 2012

"The location is suburb and we enjoyed our stay at Draaihoek, but would not award it with 4 Stars. The rooms are clean and comfortable in our opinion. The oversize bed, quality linen and heated towel rail might be implied when reference is made to ‘luxurious’, our room needed some maintenance though - blinds, door, curtains and table lamp. The food was really good, but it takes a very long time to be served and the staff's service is not what you would expect from a 4 Star establishment. The staff are generally friendly when spoken to, but we did not experience the warm hospitality that the West Coast is known for. The fireplace in the room is cosy and perfect for cold days."

  • "A gentle jewel by the sea"

    09 February 2012

"We broke our journey from the Kalahari to Cape Town with dinner, bed and breakfast at Draaihoek. The place and the staff just make it a totally relaxing place to be."

  • "Great"

    09 December 2011

"It was great! Thanks so much Marie."

  • "Excellent"

    14 August 2011

"The rooms are luxurious and comfortable. The bathroom only has a shower (which is a pity). A 4 Star lodge/hotel should have a bath in my opinion. The food is exquisite! The location is perfect - though you have the sand dunes separating the lodge from the sea. The jetty takes you right onto the beach! I would definitely recommend this lodge! We had a wonderful stay and great hospitality."

  • "Fantastic"

    20 January 2011

"This is a fantastic place to use as a central base when exploring the West Coast. Elands bay, Lamberts Bay, Darling and many more are all within easy driving distance. The rooms are large, comfortable and very well appointed, with luxurious finishes and detail. My room had a large fireplace for wintery nights, and the restaurant is exceptional. There is also a solar heated swimming pool, and a private beach for afternoon walks. Very highly recommended."

  • "Draaihoek"

    29 November 2010

"The setting is beautiful and the beach the best in South Africa. The room we stayed in was lovely and spacious. It was a pity that there was no one to welcome us and that the chef did not bother to come to work on the second evening. The fresh crayfish was excellent."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay"

    11 January 2010

"Really wished that we had more time at Draaihoek Lodge. The accommodation was comfortable and clean and the sunset awesome. Our meal in the restaurant was memorable and we found the staff delightful. There really is an atmosphere of warmth and total commitment to making ones stay as enjoyable as possible."

  • "Excellent."

    18 February 2008

"We enjoyed every minute of it. Even my 85 year old Mum was thrilled by the experience. She has poor sight. but we were able to have a well lit table for our meals, and she negotiated the board walk down to the beach! How fantastic to listen to the sounds of the Atlantic from our lodge, and enjoy the peace and quiet of the area.We will recommend to our friends!"

  • "Very good"

    13 February 2008

"It was lovely. Meals very good but delivery a little slow so one should order early and give a time for eating.Rooms very good, staff very friendly and obliging, situation glorious. We walked on the never-ending pristine beach and watched dolphins frolicking in the waves."

  • "Surf trips to Elands will never be the same again..."

    01 October 2007

"My oh my! No longer is a "green card" needed for the habitual bolt up the West Coast to catch perfect 4-6 foot EBay when the swell pops out of the deep blue... My precious wife, Caroline, is now all to keen to come now that luxury is on the menu.Draaihoek offers West Coast peace, space, and serenity. The thatched lodges seem brand new, are very clean, have a lovely firepace (I just added the pre-cut pieces of blitz provided to the pre-built fire and lit!), and far-away-from-it-all ambience.I loved going to sleep to the loud sounds of the sea crashing just over the dunes.Draaihoek is lovely for kids. Totally safe, I know the kids will just run wild - I'm looking forward to returning with them. There's a heated pool too and lots of grassy play areas. The lodge also serves food and it is damn fine fare, especially the lemon meringue! Thanks to Genine and her friendly staff for their hospitality."

  • "Exeptional"

    03 September 2007

"Exceptional service from Maartjie. Bought my mother-in-law who is in her last few weeks of cancer and she paid absolute attention to the cooking of her food which was specific.Maartjie gave us a wealth of information on where to see the best flowers, and was spot on, and very thorough on what routes etc. Highly impressed.I dont often write these back to management but I was highly impressed."

  • "A lovely place"

    17 July 2007

"The staff here really went out of their way to make us comfortable, it is a lovely location and good accommodation.I have never been presented with a vegetarian menu of about 8 items, especially put together for our family of 4! We were so spoilt for choice, and wished we could have stayed an extra few days to try everything."

  • "Simply wonderful"

  • "Honeymoon Trip"

  • "Draaihoek Lodge - the ultimate in tranquility and hospitality"

    13 January 2007

"We recently spent two amazing nights at Draaihoek and will definitely be back! The finishes and the little touches in the cottages were just perfect.I especially admired the embroidered bedlinens and the king bed was just the most comfortable I have ever slept in, and that includes expensive five star lodges. Our hosts and the staff just couldn't do enough for us.The drive up from Cape Town was well worth the effort.Arriving on New Year's Day to a clear blue sky, a pristine (empty, except for us!) powder white sand beach as far as the eye could see, to be greeted with a welcome drink of excellent SA bubbly (I could kick myself for not asking what it was!) - what a way to start the New Year. The best was yet to come - the fabulous sunset, the stars, and a gemsbok fillet for dinner I which was so tender I could cut it with a feather! The place seems well off the beaten track and is in the middle of nature but is really a click off the R27.It's part gravel to Lambert Bay where we indulged in crayfish (as one does there), but there are no big potholes or anything to impede the journey (about 3/4 hour) in a 'normal' car.I could go on and on (and just did!) but this place is REALLY SPECIAL!"

"The venue is beautiful, so well kept and clean & fresh. We loved the fact that the beach is so close and the seating on the dunes is such a good idea - very beautiful place to sit & relax & drink in the stunning view. We loved the privacy we had and yet also the interaction with the staff was great. Your chef, Lizette,is extremely well skilled and her food was absolutely awesome - we have not eaten so well in ages - the portins were really generous and the food was beautifully prepared - very imaginative and sooo tasty! We thouroughly enjoyed Fariedah looking after us so well, she is definitely an asset to your lodge. She was so helpful , nothing was to much effort and such a lovely smile all the time - wonderful sense of humour. The room was very attractive - loved the big fireplace, extremely comfortable bed and lovely furniture and finishes in the room.It was a wonderful getaway and we feel totally relaxed and refreshed. We'll be back."
