Fransvliet Guest House

Fransvliet Guest House is a tranquil, luxury retreat, only 4 km from the heart of Franschhoek. It is situated on a working farm with growing grapes, olives and figs. There are beautiful mountain views surrounding the guest house for a relaxing stay. The individually decorated suites are pure luxury with absolute attention to detail and soft wineland colours that set the tone.

Spend time in the newly renovated 65-year old house, either inside or on the veranda, enjoying the view of the swimming pool and the vineyards. Celebrate each morning with either a continental or a full breakfast that will include seasonal specials. The sparkling pool is at your disposal for those hot lazy afternoons or snuggle up in your suite during winter in a comfy armchair with your own personal fireplace.

Meander through the beautiful garden on your way to your suite where something special will be flowering at all times. In season, luscious figs will be found on the trees and the scent of lemons may be in the air as well.

Situated in the Franschhoek Valley, with river frontage and with easy access to the main road, the guest house is the perfect location for a Cape Winelands getaway. The close proximity to Franschhoek, celebrated as South Africa's food and wine capital, makes for wonderful weekends of restaurants, wine tastings and exploration.

"This was definitely one of the nicest guest houses I have ever stayed at. The staff were friendly, interested and not intrusive.<br /><br />The accommodation offered some of the best bells and whistles, from an iPod docking station, to a personal Bosch fireplace and Nespresso machine.<br /><br />The breakfast offering was sumptuous and divine, full of personal touches from self-made preserves to the blended juice of the day by Victor.<br /><br />The key items for me in a review are the quality of the bed, and the shower, because if those are good , I'm happy.&nbsp; The bed can't be faulted I slept well.<br /><br />The shower was good, with the only minor gripe being that other guests simultaneously using water in their rooms appear to effect the temperature in my room.<br /><br />A small faux pas was finding the wet used bath mat draped over the clean bath towels on the heated towel rack on the 2nd day.<br /><br />My other pet peeve, being tall, 6foot3 is that I had to stoop to see my face in both the bathroom mirrors and full length mirror.<br /><br />The location is awesome, the view from the room gorgeous and certainly value for money. I would highly recommend Fransvliet Guest House for a romantic getaway to Franschoek to locals and international travelers alike.<br />"

"We stayed at Fransvliet for two nights, but after arriving wish we'd booked in more time. It was set in a peaceful setting, looking out on a fragrant garden over the vineyards. The room was wonderful luxury, and we had fun with the wood burning stove and enjoyed the huge bathroom with giant shower and bath.Vicky helped us plan our days, and Vic's wife made the best breakfast of our whole 2 week trip in SA.We would love to come back and recommend it to anyone.Thank you for making us so welcome and for such a relaxing but fun-packed couple of days."

  • "Skip if you are looking for relaxation"

    10 February 2013

"This would have been a perfect guesthouse, fantastic room, friendly service and one of the best quality breakfasts ever. Only problem is the road noise. 4 of 5 cottages face the road. No afternoon nap possible even with the aircon humming along, traffic noise dies down very late at night and returns slowly from 5am. 100 m from a busy road is not an ideal location for a guesthouse. Impression of advert that this in a quiet vineyard is totally misleading. <br></br> <b>Establishment's Response</b> <br></br> <i>I am very sorry that we did not meet your criteria. In defense, I can only say that firstly I have my home only 15 m further into the vineyards, and very exposed, and I am never affected by road noise. Secondly we have already had a number of “return” visits from both local and overseas clients – they have all stayed between 1 and 3 weeks, and have never commented on the road noise. The only time I have had a definite noise was one Sunday morning very early when the Harley Davidson crew throttled through – in this case the whole valley gets the noise. As to the noise going on late into the night, I really do dispute this as there are no trucks on the road at night, and only a few cars going home in both directions. I don’t feel that our advert is misleading as Fransvliet is a much revered, and a very peaceful and calm place.</i>"

  • "The best guest house"

    06 January 2013

"This is by far the best guesthouse we stayed in during our tour of 14 days, and we stayed at about 10 different guest houses. Beautiful rooms, very guiet as it is surrounded by vineyards. A lot of extra things in room and everything is working. The best by far!"

  • "Absolutely wonderful guest house"

    20 June 2012

"What a wonderful place to stay. A definite must. Beautifully situated on a farm slightly away from the bustle of Franschhoek but close enough to enjoy all that the area has to offer. Accommodation is beautiful, comfortable and all amenities are supplied. Shirley and Joe are most friendly and gracious hosts. Cannot recommend this guest house enough. Will definitely return."
