Magoebaskloof Getaway

Magoebaskloof Getaway provides a welcome stopover for business travellers, sales executives and holidaymakers. It is an oasis of peace and tranquility where one is able to unwind and enjoy the lush, subtropical vegetation.

Magoebaskloof Getaway's cottages and campsites are serenely situated in a beautiful fertile valley on the escarpment of the Drakensberg in the scenic mountainous setting of Magoebaskloof. The cottages are less than three hours' drive from Pretoria.

You are at liberty to wander through the area, through the forests and explore the river while enjoying and experiencing the call of the prolific bird life in this peaceful environment. This district boasts some of the most beautiful and exotic gardens in South Africa. During spring there is a magnificence of brilliantly coloured azaleas and flowering cherries.

Come fly-fishing in the beautiful mountains of Magoebaskloof where trout fishing is an extremely popular pastime and sport. On the farm there is a beautiful Trout dam and another dam with bass. There is also a volleyball court, a jungle gym for the kids and a beautiful hiking trail with three lovely waterfalls. The hiking trail goes to the top of the farm alongside a perennial stream. While on your way up you can have a shower under the waterfall in crystal clean spring water.

"The cabin is situated in a beautiful place. The drive down and up the hill is a bit of a mission if you plan on heading out each day. Would recommend it as a pet friendly getaway. The cabin is well equipped and clean. A few things need fixing and the showers are very hard to regulate - one minute freezing cold, the next scorching hot. The braai was rusted and had holes in it. The guests in the neighbouring cabin were vegetarian so kindly let us use their braai. The owner got very upset about us moving the braai around and was very rude to us.The area had no power after a big storm for 3 days. The gas oven and geysers made this bearable however little else was done by the owner to assist us."

  • "Beautiful place, but not maintained and poor service."

"Travelled to this part of the country for the 1st time and was taken aback by its beauty! Upon arriving at Magoebaskloof Getaway, we were greeted by a rather rude lady who told us that we were there too early. I had let the host know that we may get there earlier and if they werent ready, there wouldnt have been an issue. Our cabin, the Samango, was situated in a lovely area and the views were stunning. The cabin itself was filthy! We had to go and buy our own cleaning materials to clean the bathroom and the kitchen as one couldnt use it. There was rotten fruit under the bed in one of the rooms and there was dust and cobwebs everywhere - the place looked like it hadnt been cleaned in months. On our second day, we came home and one of the cleaning staff had switched off the plug of the fridge. Due to it being very hot and the nature of the food, we had to throw it all out. We called the host, Beth, to make her aware of what had happened and she was very unapologetic and dismissive. She said she would call us back but we are yet to receive a response. I would recommend that everyone visit the area of Magoebaskloof but definitely wouldnt recommend that they stay at Magoebaskloof Getaway."

  • "No highlight"

    02 October 2017

"We stayed in Narina Cottage which has seen better days. All of it rather shabby, and an air of neglect. Curtain hooks had come undone and not hooked up, and the furniture didn't look clean. The coverings on the couch looked down at heel. The establishment had problems because of the rain and we had no water at one stage. When it came on it was brown. The toilet blocked and eventually we dislodged a chunk of mud. We asked and were given a refund on the remainder of our stay, which we had to cancel due to these problems. The refund done in very good grace. Such a pity as the location is beautiful and we were looking forward to doing some serious birding. But the place needs a pick me up for sure."

"Die natuur in die berge was baie mooi. Die tuine was goed versorg. Die logcabin was goed toegerus. Die uitsig oor die dam aangenaam. Wat gepla het, is die toilet wat vasgehak het en die plankvloer was nie skoon nie."

  • "An experience"

    02 April 2013

"We had an amazing time, the view from our cottage was breathtaking, the people were friendly. We were left alone to do our own thing, we walked, we hiked, we fished. Just a little bit of DIY is needed, but other than that, we were so very very happy. We had the best easter weekend ever and my 3 boys said that was the best holiday they have ever had! I would recommend Magoebaskloof Getaway to everyone, its a beautiful place. It was like being in our own world - there just no words to eplain, one must go and experieance it!! Wish we could have stayed longer, we left with very very heavy hearts - Thank you Magoebaslkloof Getaway for the best mini holiday we have ever had and hope we can return."

  • "Horrible! Do not go here!"

    02 July 2012

"What a horrible smelly place! Please do not stay there. The linen is soiled, old and not ironed. The furniture was old and weary. We did not see ourselves sleeping in that horrible place."
