Stanford Lake Lodge

Your own piece of paradise, self-catering Single and Double Storey Log Cabins and a Honeymoon Cabin overlooking the 17-hectare Stanford Lake, whose waterfall feeds the spectacular Ebenezer Dam. There are also three rustic semi-detached, self-catering Cottages only a stones throw from the indigenous forest. Located in Haenertsburg, Limpopo, it's the perfect getaway for those seeking nature at its best. Stanford Lake Lodge is less than a three-hour drive from Pretoria.

Right at your doorstep, the 17 hectare Stanford Lake, whose waterfall feeds the spectacular Ebenezer Dam, has trout and bass to test your fly fishing skills. Stanford Lake Lodge is situated on a 127 hectare farm with surrounding areas neighbouring the Ebeneezer Dam, providing an abundant area of vast exciting trails of exploration for any avid mountain biker or hiker.

Thee Capricorn-Letaba Birding Route stretches from Polokwane in the west to the Great Letaba River beyond the Letsitele valley in the east. An interesting geographical feature of this route is its varying altitude. The extreme variations in altitude result in a great range of vegetation types within a relatively small area. It is within these diverse habitats that over 500 bird species are to be found. The open thornveld habitat of the Polokwane plateau supports a great variety of both bushveld and Kalahari-type birds. The afro-montane forests of Woodbush and Magoebaskloof offer amongst the best forest birding in the country with specials like brown scrub-robin, black-fronted bush shrike, barratts warbler, yellow-streaked greenbul and orange ground thrush. While the eastern lower slopes and valleys of Magoebaskloof provide reliable sites for the elusive bat hawk and green twinspot.

Stanford Farm boasts a bird list of over 67 birds you will find these birds in three areas. Firstly, in the ferns and low bushes that are found on the slopes that border Stanford Lake. Secondly, in the reeds and water and thirdly, in the indigenous forest which is probably the most interesting of all the areas.

Also on Stanford Farm, just up the road from the cottages, Colleen Ballenden offers foot massages and more at The Growth Centre. Many soothing therapies are offered and after chatting a little, design an hour of different treatments to suit your needs.

Haenertsburg is known as the capital of the land of the Silver Mists, this enchanting corner of the Limpopo Province forms a natural gateway both to and from the Kruger National Park.

"Not bad for the price. We stayed in the 3 bed chalet. It can do with a bit of sprucing up - painting, etc. The growth centre on the farm is a marvel! Just the place to get in touch with your inner self."

    15 July 2013

"We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Stanford Lake Lodge. The property is beautiful and we loved the morning forest walks as well as the many activities in the area - perfect for kids.Next time I'd book the cabin and not the cottage though as the cottages do not have any views and are not in the best location if you consider where the cabins are. Thanks for the hospitality."
