Skeiding Guest Farm

Skeiding is a working ostrich farm, close to the N2 and halfway between Cape Town and Knysna. This makes us the ideal stopover. A friendly family farm, an education for city slickers, a place to relax and enjoy beautiful mountain views as the farm is situated on high, open rolling terrain. We, Neels and Ann-Lize, are two energetic people who love life. You need to be to run a farm, a young family, two dogs and a guesthouse in the same lifetime.

Spoil yourself and stay Bed and Breakfast or even better, have dinner. Otherwise relax next to your own fire and stay self-catering.

Enjoy home cooked country cuisine prepared by Ann-Lize and her small team of able and enthusiastic assistants . Neels is the meat chef on the open fire, unless farm work calls him away. A three course menu is served every evening at the family dining table. Please let us know of any dietary requirements for the best culinary experience. Also let us know if you are celebrating a birthday or any special occasion that you would like us to cater for.

We have six rooms and four cottages that have all you need to feel pampered. There is a honesty bar, tea and coffee making facilities, en-suite bathrooms with strong showers, heater, ceiling fan, electric blankets, ostrich leather slippers and gown, hair dryers and good South African port on the house, to enjoy on the patio as a sundowner. The rooms and cottages are named after plants, animals and birds commonly found in our area, which is a real birders paradise.

One of the highlights of your stay will be the farm tour with Neels. A hands-on experience every morning at 07:30. Feeding the ostriches, watching the working dogs, a Border Collie and Australian Kelpie, work with the sheep and visiting the ostriches and other farm animals. We do believe that we can really add value to your life, staying with us.

"Travelling as a family of 5 we stayed 2 nights at Skeiding and had an amazing evening meal on both nights as well as a wonderful breakfast. Tour of the farm was a highlight and our hosts made us very welcome. We would highly recommend a stay at this oasis, great accommodation, food, and company, and an ostrich egg to boot!"

  • "Great experience on farm"

    31 March 2012

"The farm is just a lovely place to stay on the way from Cape Town to the Garden Route. We, young couple, stayed one night with great sunset, BBQ, awesome breakfast and the morning drive on the ranch. I would suggest 2 nights as a stopover. If you are on a budget, check the prices with the owner before saying yes to friendly drink offers. Other than that, book it."

"We stayed just one night, but we enjoyed a lot! Even it places far from the city, there is a lot of things to do such as walking a beautiful garden and farm, playing with smart dogs and ostrichs, and talking with wonderful people! Also it is available to eat a dinner, which is really good!"

  • "The children loved the open space"

    15 November 2007

"This is a must for city kids and their folks! A working farm with all the character excitement and educational value you could wish for, hosted by a warm and dynamic family. The food is unbelievably delicious so I'd definitely recommend opting for the prepared meals rather than going the self catering route. We learned about and encountered ostriches, watch sheep shearing, and witness the incubation and hand rearing of blue parrots, plus much more. The children loved the open space to run about and even spotted some Blue Cranes!"
