  • "Backpackers rooms"

    14 June 2016

"The backpackers room was expensive for what was provided, there were no kitchen facilities except for an outside fireplace and a kettle, also no heating of the room<div>The septic tanks in the back garden were also overflowing and smelt bad</div>"

  • "Nice stay"

"We enjoyed our stay with our guests from Netherland in an old English atmosphere with very nice staff and good meals."

  • "Friendly and helpful, comfortable beds"

    17 August 2015

"Dorm room and bedding were clean and cozy, staff were very kind and helpful, barkeep was a little overwhelmed but all in all we had a great night. Communal ablutions were neat although a private changing area by the showers would be really welcome. Charming little place, will recommend."

  • "Could try a little harder"

    21 July 2015

"This last visit (July) was my third to the hotel over the last 6 or so years. Each visit has had its' niggles but never enough to put me off a return. In fact, to this visit it is one of my favourite African pubs.<br /><br />The pluses have always been the geographic location, rustic decor and general atmosphere. Comfortable rooms and good pub meals are another of those positives.<br /><br />However, this trip the niggles got a little stronger. The hotel has finally changed hands and appears to be in a state of hoped for transition - the present arrangement appears to be one of indifference, be it bar service, room maintenance or general common sense comforts such as lighting fires in the morning when the cooks arrive and before the guests freeze to death in the dining room. On the last note, it is mid-winter and the hotel has multiple fire places, most of which were not lit at all during day or night. How much is a box of matches?<br /><br />My room was OK, but the front door lock didn't really work and so a towel had to be shoved in the crack to block the chill air. Reluctant to light the fire in the room because there was no screen guard to arrest sparks etc. The bath hand shower tap literally disintegrated in my hand when it was turned on - upper body wash in the hand basin was the order of the day but not what I had hoped for.<br /><br />Perhaps the signal point of the stay was the fact that the (trainee?) barman appeared to be drunk and took a bit of communicating with to get close to correct on any orders. Later on he directly accused the local guy I was sitting next to at the bar of being a racist. This may have been right for all that I know, but I thought it a little intemperate as it eventually seemed to include any white person in the bar.<br /><br />This might have been the last visit I think.&nbsp; <br />"

  • "Cosy room, friendly staff"

    24 December 2014

"We stayed in a room with a fireplace, very comfortable. Pub/bar is a local gathering point to watch sports events on TV/Satelite."

  • "Room11"

    12 August 2013

"This was the poorest experience of a hotel room we have ever had! The building is falling apart (brandering of the ceiling was seperated from the wall) and the room was dirty. The carpet was dirty and had holes burned into. The room was cold and the fireplace was inefficent. No electric heater or electric blanket were availlable. We were, however, supplied with additional firewood. The hot water supply was very good! The service in the restaurant was so slow, that we had to abandon it."
