Ndumu River Lodge

This is one of the few destinations where a visitor can see the big 5 at a game reserve and within a short half hour's drive be able to watch dolphins and whales. There is a variety of excellent accommodation to suit every pocket and a holiday to the Elephant Coast will be enjoyed by everyone from adventure lovers to those who just want to escape to the bush and commune with nature.

Dense evergreen forests of towering fig trees stand in a lush undergrowth of ferns and wild orchids hanging from the trees. Palm savannahs with thousands of wild date and lala palms dot the white sand of the undulating landscape. Swamp forests with large raffias and tangled masses of greenery that are home to myriads of exquisite birds and behind them mountainous sand dunes that appear to shift with the sighing of gentle winds.

Ndumu River Lodge is located in a diverse ecosystem that traverses from the Lebombo Mountains neighboring Swaziland to the Laquit Sand Forests of the Mozambique boundary. Ndumu River Lodge offers air conditioned en-suite rooms and self catering units. We offer breakfast, lunch and dinner in our restaurant. Forming part of the North western route of the elephant coast, Ndumu River Lodge is only 500 km from Johanesburg and 450 km from Durban. Guests are able to fly directly to Richards Bay and journey northwards on the N2 to Ndumo River Lodge. The park also supports the Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Rhino, Giraffe along with the Suni deer which are found exclusively in the Laquati Sand Forest.

  • "Nice Stay"

    15 April 2013

"Setting was lovely! Staff was very helpful and cheery. Food was okay - soup very very salty. Long time between ordering and receiving food. Shower was terrible. Small amount of water and sprayed all different directions."

  • "Suited us."

    28 October 2012

"The accommodation was adequate, comfortable and clean. The power was out the night we arrived but the staff did an outstanding job to make sure we were fed (by candlelight). It was easy to find and convenient for us but the website implied it was closer to the game reserves. We had great difficulty settling the bill when we left as their machine did not seem to read our cards (five cards in total), and we had to leave to get cash. This was inconvenient, and our cards worked everywhere else!"

  • "Enjoyed"

    21 February 2012

"Very enjoyable, did not like chalet no 1, but moved to no 5 spent 2 good nights there."

  • "Disappointed experience"

    16 August 2011

"Where is the "River"? The one about 2km further on? The house is not bad except for the terrible stairs - absolutly dangerous. The kitchen sink is directly next to the toilet in the same room - not even a curtain. There were only one glass and one fork. What you see on the internet is not what you get."
