Springvale Cottage

Springvale Cottage is nestled in a tranquil valley, 11 km from Ladismith, and is a sanctuary for nature lovers and hikers. This is a picture-perfect base, with the majestic Towerkop in the background. The establishment is situated on a vineyard farm which is an incredible setting to enjoy different activities.

Springvale offers a spacious, luxurious, 2 Star self-catering cottage with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. Bedding and towels are provided, as well as blankets and heaters for cold winter nights. A fan and a TV with local channels (no DSTV) are also provided. If you want to have a barbecue, wood is available at an additional fee.

Activities to enjoy on the farm include a 3 km hike in the koppies, a 15 km walk in the game area with 18 species of buck, a scenic 4x4 trail through the game camp, bird watching and game drives. This will only be arranged with pre- booking. The campsite is located right next to the Springvale hiking trail.

"Great place to relax. No TV, no mobile signal. The quietness was magical. Good place to escape the city madness. House was comfortable. Wrap up though. Ladismith can get icy cold in winter."

"Hi guys It is with great dissapointment to give back negative feedback. But i feel that truth needs to be spoken. After traveling for 4 hours we finally got to Ladismith. From there we had taken the road out towards springvale cottage. After several stops and getting lost along the way we asked one of the workers there for directions. We found a very small sign for the place. Upon arriving at the cottage for our camp weekend, excited as we really wanted to explore the place as per the pictures provided, there was not a person in site. We eventually decided to set up camp in the best place we could find. No shade, no maintenance or upkeeping of the place. Torns covering vast areas of the camping area,spiders, scorpions and snakes and this just a few meters away from our tent. The dam/reservoir was over flowing and the tap did not close properly so the water was running constantly and daming up as well. The hiking trail board was visable but the trail was overgrown. There were no signal or means of contacting the establishment. Saturday morning the heat got so bad that a mere 10 minutes in the sun turned me into a crisp. The lovely river/dam area on the photos online ere completely overgrown with plants and could not be accessed at all. Dont get me wrong we love camping and we can handle alot of roughing it up and the bare nature and what comes with it. But this was a total let down. We were not greeted upon our arrival nor did we see anyone that could be running the place. We decided after only 1 night that we would rather pack up and find another means of accomodation for the saturday night. I will not recommend this place easily unless some serious commitment and changes have been made. Besides the financial expenses and not being able to have a well rested and great tripwe still managed to have a somewhat relaxed day once we booked into one of our regular camp sites that could accomodate us back in Montagu. "Clearly a place to avoid! No cell signal, no 3G connection and no TV at all. Isolated and a security concern. The trees in the picture hides the out-dated feel of the place. Found bugs, worms and a frog in the old farmhouse. It's not a cottage, it's a old out-dated, oversized, out of use farmhouse. Disappointed."
