Warthogs Safari Camp

Warthogs Safari Camp is Cameron Harvey Safaris' small, friendly and rather unique and affordable camp on the outskirts of Kariba town. Despite its close proximity to urban life, it's nestled in mopane scrub on the shores of the lake and is bang in the middle of a game corridor, so exciting close-up game viewing is a common past time.

The Safari Camp is a perfect stopover location before houseboat trips, canoe trips and ferry trips or just to chill for a few days. We currently offer accommodation for up to 11 people by way of en-suite safari tents. We also have a small area with dome tents (with bedding and solar lighting) and 3 sites for camping. We supply all bedding and BASIC braai equipment; you only need bring with you your own towel, toiletries and a torch. There is a communal fridge for campers' use in the bar. If you prefer, bring your own cooler box for the tents (not allowed in the bar area).

We have hot showers and clean toilets for the campers and there are braai stands...please ask for them at the bar. (The camp site ablution block is currently being renovated so please inquire about progress on this). The bar kitchen and grill is open every day from 7am to 8.30pm.

We have staff on duty 24-hours a day as a security presence, to help with washing up, and assist with making fires. For entertainment there's our friendly bush bar and splash pool. Elephants, hippo and zebra often wander through to check our menu and keep the grass trimmed. On cool nights you can sit round the fire pit overlooking the floodplain and lake. We also have a resident dog for added security and 2 cats. Please do not bring your own pets.

As registered operators we can book you onto sunset cruises, houseboat safaris and canoe trips. To make life easy, shops and fuel are only a few kilometres away.

"We loved the relaxed atmosfere, friendly staff. Nothing was too much, they even looked after our caravans whilst we were on a houseboat. Wayne and Louisa are really lovely people."

"Cabins have very nice and large bathrooms. Wonderful to stay so close to the water, the staff walked the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. The chef at the bar/restaurant is very good!"

  • "DISAPPOINTMENT"

"<p>We have been asked to give a review with regards to our booking and stay at Warthogs Bush Camp. This is what we experienced.</p><p>Firstly we went onto the internet to look for self catering chalets. The advert on the internet and at the entrance of the camp is very very misleading. When we arrived there was no one to welcome us except for the barman. We paid for our stay in full when we were sent the quotation before our arrival. The manageress was behind us when we arrived and she still did not introduce herself to us or welcome us. We booked in with the barman and when we needed out the key it was left to us to walk around to find the cleaner who was in the possession of the said key</p><p>At the bar there is a sign that stipulates that no cooler boxes are permitted on the premises and no food other than what was purchased at the camp bar was permitted either. Now we travelled from South Africa for a 3 day stay there with our food and drinks as we were under the impression that it was self catering.</p><p>When we were shown to our room we had another surprise waiting for us. Being under the impression thatit was self catering there was no fridge in the room. It only consisted of two beds and two seater bench like couch and toilet and a shower which is not under roofing. We do not know how this place can be advertised as self catering. The kitchen lady only comes in at 11 am so if you required breakfast you had to wait for her to come in.</p><p>We booked out immediately as this is no place to take a family on a holiday. Maybe a group of men for a fishing trip yes. Once we had booked out we still went to the camp to have a drink at the bar everyday as this was the only one closest to us and while on a drive we would stop in there. On all three occasions the manageress was there but she still did not greet us or even come and find out why we had booked out.</p><p>Being in the same industry at home I find this behaviour disgusting, as there was a group of 4 people who arrived while we were having a drink and because she knew who they were she immediately stood up and greeted them and even joined them for a drink. Surely Warthogs Bush Camp would also like to generate new business and not just keep the old happy. </p><p>Where I work I personally book the clients in and show them to their chalets. I personally cook for the lodge every night and our lodge consists of 21 chalets and 5 single rooms. I consistently check with the clients if everything still meets with their approval and should they need anything my phone is on 24/7. We are constantly busy and still generating new business. I hope that Warthog can still make it with the attitude of their manager because we certainly will not be returning or recommending it to others.</p><p>We cannot even submit this without stating how many stars we give Warthogs Bush Camp and we did not want to put one but it is compulsory. We don't consider it even worth one star.</p><p>Angelo and Chantelle</p>"
