Old Village Lodge

Old Village Lodge is a luxury country guest house set in a half acre of gloriously manicured gardens complete with established fruit trees, meandering pathways and cooling water features. Situated high up in the village, Old Village Lodge is quiet yet connected, positioned only a few minutes walk from local restaurants and shops yet a world away from any hustle and bustle.

Built in 1861, McGregors most photographed landmark is a heritage protected building for a reason. This grand lady boasts original high ceilings, sparkling crystal chandeliers and wooden shutters. Each of the three king-sized rooms is individually decorated, luxuriously appointed and offers modern en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning. Guests can relax in a beautifully furnished lounge. Sherry and chocolates are provided and a complementary range of espresso, coffee, tea and home-baked rusks is available throughout the day.

A two course breakfast is offered each morning. Guests are invited to take their meal in the formal dining room, on one of the garden patios or at the pool.

Home made croissants and jam or muffins are followed by seasonal fruit and a cooked to order hot course. Coffee is hot and plentiful.

The Old Village Lodge offers free wi-fi throughout and off-street parking for all guests. Evening meals can be prepared on request.

Explore the Robertson wine valley - a short 20 minute drive away, challenge yourself to the Boesmanskloof Hiking Trail, meet the donkeys at a local sanctuary or simply or while away your afternoons next to the sparkling blue 11 meter long swimming pool.

Whatever your preference - an unsurpassed heritage of effortlessly gracious hospitality combined with modern comfort make Old Village Lodge an unforgettable McGregor experience

"I loved every moment of my stay at the Lodge. The rooms are wonderfully kitted out, the pool is fabulous, the breakfasts were imaginative and delicious, the hosts couldn't do enough for us (including Washing my friend's t-shirt after an accidental red wine spill) and I came back to Cape Town feeling completely chilled out and happy. Mc Gregor is a wonderful village and Nicolaas and Chris are great ambassadors. Don't hesitate even a second ... Stay here. And when you do, have dinner at Karoux .... Another delightful, delicious discovery. Between the welcome and comfort of Old Village Lodge and the dinner at Karoux .... You will feel like you are a blessed being."

  • "Wonderful stay!"

    21 June 2012

"We stayed at Old Village lodge in McGregor during the yearly Wacky Wine valley weekend in June. Our hosts Nicolaas and Chris have a wonderful haven, close enough to Robertson but secluded enough to enjoy the tranquility of pure country living, with award winning restaurants only walking distance away. Our room was spacious and stylishly decorated, with an additional living area outside to relax as well as a patio to soak up the summer or winter sun. There is also a lovely pool and garden outside to enjoy. Nicolaas is a great cook and spoilt us with homemade bread, cakes and wonderful breakfasts every day; it was like having our own personal chef! We can highly recommend their guest house and plan a return trip in the summer to make use of the pool and enjoy everything McGregor has to offer in the summer months. Nothing is too much for these wonderful hosts to make your stay as comfortable and unforgettable as possible."
