  "Environment was great. Poor lighting in the dark along the pathways. Beds were great. Our bathroom had no roof and no window panes - even for a backpacker this is unacceptable for that price. The host was friendly and accommodating. Would I stay there again? Not sure."

  "Stayed in the Rondavel with family of 5. Very nice place to start a vacation in South Africa, but less suitable for a family in wintertime: no inside dining/sitting area, only 1 shower/toilet for all guests.Great garden though, kids enjoyed the climbing tree, playhouse and playground!"

  "Awesome place- great pool, braai area and beautiful garden. Bathroom facilities a problem though. Only one toilet inside the only shower: very uncomfortable at times! They are building more, though, so as soon as they're done, it would be really fantastic."

I had to leave early, and he picked up breakfast for me for a minimal fee. If you're for a comfortable bed on the cheap, this is it!"

  "We stayed at Barefoot Backpackers for a weekend, from Friday to Sunday. The place is quiet, comfortable and warm. We cannot compliment this place enough, it is really amazing. It was the perfect location and the price was unbelievably reasonable, we got much more than we paid for. We had a fantastic stay, it was lovely. We were able to use the time to really relax and plan for the year. We stayed in the Bird's Nest - a spacious, cosy pinewood cabin which was equipped with pretty much everything we needed. The furniture was in top-notch condition and everything was clean. The cabin was like a home for us and we instantly fell in love with the place. We are planning to go back sometime. The swimming pool and poolside lapa were amazing. The trees, garden and abundance of birds made everything special. We woke up to the sound of birds each morning. Matthew, the owner couldn't do enough for us. He went out of his way to make our stay extra special and memorable. Matthew and Lindiwe were gracious hosts, very helpful during our visit and they did everything possible to make sure we had a pleasant visit. Barefoot is the quietest, cleanest and coolest place in Johannesburg - it is just the best. Highly recommended!"

  "I spent an amazing two days at Barefoot Backpackers with two friends. We absolutely loved the peaceful atmosphere. The area is spectacular with the best facilities to have a braai and just relax. I have never been so sad to leave a place and truly can't wait to spend a few more days there on my next holiday. Matt, the owner, is delightful and a wonderful person that really makes you feel so welcome. Thank you so much for letting us experience this tranquil and peaceful area with the most beautiful garden and making this a home for us. I only wish I could have had more time there. Will be back soon though. A dream place for relaxation and unwinding."
