Thokazi Royal Lodge

This peaceful bush-style retreat, set in the majestic landscape of Zululand, boasts a picturesque stone farmhouse which was constructed in 1919. Thokazi, which means "heffe" in Zulu, is a reverberation of the rich Zulu culture, which is ever-present in this pastoral location. Thokazi Royal Lodge is situated close to the six Royal Residences of His Majesty King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu and the renowned Royal Route. The world-famous Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Big 5 Game Reserve is situated approximately 1.5 hours away and spoils its visitors with spectacular game viewing all year round.

Thokazi comprises three chalets in total, each boasting four standard bedrooms and one luxury room, all of which can be individually let. Each standard room is furnished with a minibar, 32-inch plasma TV, fans, as well as tea and coffee-making facilities and a complimentary bottle from His Majestys Bayedi wine collection. The common air-conditioned guest area consists of a cosy dining and lounge area and a fully equipped kitchen.

Thokazi Royal Lodge offers its visitors a magnificent taste sensation. Sample traditional Zulu beer at the residents local pub or enjoy dinner in candlelit ambiance, with attentive service and memorable cuisine. "The view of the place is great .The issues i had is the fact that on the internet they don't disclose that its a commune type of set-up.The kitchen didt not have utensils to use.pots,plates glassess etc.It felt and lookec like they where not expecting us because the place was dirty.Their rule of NOT cleaning the rooms daily but only after we leave because of COVID is nonsense ."

"The rooms are lovely, clean and comfitable. However, I was very disappointed that R1000 can be charged without breakfast. When we checked in we asked for breakfast and was told there are no ingredients to make breakfast. The website says check-in is at 13h00, however when we arrived we were told to come back at 14h00 because the rooms are not ready. In addition, for the money that we pay you would expect to find shower gel and soap in your room. I might have to try another lodge when back in December."

"Nice tranquil place. The house/ communal idea is great especially as we were the only ones there However it could be a nightmare if you are sharing with strangers. Beds are super comfortable. The Host Musa was amazing. He really knows how to connect with people & engage. He is a great host"
