Ouplaas Town Guest House

Ouplaas Town Guest House is situated in Ottosdal in the North West Province. The sandstone house was built in 1917 and is well equipped for guests travelling by. The fully-catered facility offers great charm and a beautiful garden. Magdalena and Coert are known for their hospitality with style, and Magdalenas love of music, people, interior decorating, and good food give a distinctive character and atmosphere to Ouplaas.

Ottosdal lies on the R507 between Hartebeesfontein and Delareyville, north west of Klerksdorp. While there is not much at first glance, Ottosdal just happens to be the only town where the wonderstone/pyrophyllite is found and mined. It also boasts the oldest annual agricultural show in the province.

The town features a British fort, ancient war trenches and cemeteries, a Garden of Rembrance for the soldiers killed during the Anglo-Boer War, the Old Water Mill built in 1860 that is a National Monument, and Khoisan rock engravings on local farms. Today it is mainly a farming community with a couple of supermarkets and coffee shops. Aside from the obvious historical value, there is a golf club, an opportunity to run in the town's Nite marathon or Half Marathon, stay on local farms and game reserves, and a chance to visit Bloemhof Dam located just south of Ottosdal, considered one of the best fresh water fishing dams in the country.

"Where do I even start....So I did the booking online paid the deposit, got a call from Megan at safari the following day saying my booking was declined due to the fact that the amount on the website is incorrect the price was actually higher. I then requested for a refund. Just for her to call me back and say no had spoken to the establishment we can spend the night. Good.... Come due day, appon arrival the owner of the guest house is not there the care taker knows nothing about my booking request that I phone the owner, I left phoned the owner she said my location has been changed due to a wedding taking place at the guest house now that for me was a redflag!!! She then sends me a location of 13km out of town on a FARM it took me another hour from the gravil road the actual guest house, get there ringing in the bell someone eventually opens up mind you this is 7-8 at night with all the up and downing..Her husband then takes us to our room, Lord help me, I never felt this degraded ever!!! The place was smelling it was dusty the beds let's not even get to the beds. The bedding good lord!!! No sorry this is not one. I decided to then leave. As I was driving out the husband comes driving after me, I stoped he came to the car and asked if I would like to come and have a look at the room inside thier house... Whaaattt?? This man was not serious I said thank you but no thank you please ask your wife to return my money she does know where I'm working. I'm sorry but this is not on!!! Till now no contact was made in regards to my refund I want my money back please. False advertising at this place let me tell you that.To top it off I passed the guest house where I wanted to book and guess what there was not a car that night for this so called wedding she had. I just took it as she took me to a shelter basically only because she didn't want to do the refund from the onset and yes it's actually much cheaper booking directly than via safari but you know what NEVER AGAIN. KAK PLEK!! I took my business elsewhere can I pls have my money back."
