Fosters Manor Ostrich Feather Palace

Fosters Manor (Ostrich Feather Palace), build in 1904, is an establishment of South Cape TVET College. Charles Bullock, the great British sandstone architect, was the creator of the building. James Alexander Foster, a local attorney, instructed Bullock to design a double-storey mansion for him. Foster called the mansion Rus in Ubre, formally known as Fosters Folly and later renamed Fosters Manor.

The Manor is a National Monument and has recently been restored to its former glory. It has eight en suite guest rooms, is three star graded and offers bed and breakfast as well as conference facilities.

In room facilities include:
Coffee/tea making facility
TV (Selected DSTv)
Aircon
Small fridge

Guests will experience a culinary array of flavours mingling on the cold and hot breakfast buffet served in the dining room. Although we do not serve dinner we can make dinner reservations at excellent nearby restaurants.

We hope that we will have the pleasure of making your acquaintance real soon.

  • "Clean and comfortable old world charm"

    14 October 2017

"Effortless checking in and out, even though we arrived really late and left long before sunrise. Staff also arranged a packed breakfast for us, since we missed the included breakfast. Enormous rooms and old world charm. The house itself is in need of renovation, but everything is clean and comfortable. Location super central."

  • "Great House"

    01 April 2017

"The house is fantastic and hopefully it gets fully restored to its former grandeur. The room was ok and needs a small upgrade, The bed was a bit small and hard, the TV definitely needs upgraded as does the tea and coffee facilities. Would have been better to have a small fridge for guests use and not as a bar facility. Quite noisy late night and early morning not sure if it was the security or people in the street. Breakfast was very good"

    25 October 2013

"Wonderful experience. Lovely staff. Great breakfast. I think it could be rather chilly in the rooms in the winter, but our stay in October was fine. Rooms are large, well enormous."

"Loved it. Loved the old. Not impressed with the synthetic curtain around the bed, but otherwise LOVED it. A shower should be installed in each room."

    11 April 2010

"This was an ideal stay for us as we were at the KKNK for the week. Unfortunately, there was no shower(except a plastic one in the bath). The breakfast was lovely. I like the fact that the establishment is off the street, giving a feeling of security and quietness."

"We had a magificient stay at the Foster's Manor. The service was excellent and the host Karima was a very nice person. We had maybe the nicest room in the building and we did enjoy the pool in the garden and the very good prepared hot breakfast and service. An unforgettable stay ;-)"

  • "Historic charm and old fashioned comfort."

    03 December 2006

"Foster's Manor made for a very pleasant stay and provided quite a different experience from a typical tourist hotel. The proprietor was very welcoming and very knowledgeable about the history of the house. The room was very comfortable and it was a plus to be able to sit on the balcony outside the room after a hard day's sightseeing. Breakfast was also in keeping with the tradition of the surroundings. We would not hesitate to recommend the guest house (despite the disadvantage of very sqeaky floorboards!)"
