Berg River Resort

The Berg River Resort is located in the Paarl Valley, just 60 km north east of Cape Town, perfectly positioned for exploring the Boland, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek Winelands. The resort offers various water sports in a tranquil setting and is located close to famous wine estates, country golf courses, shops, and excellent restaurants.

Situated on the banks of the Berg River, the resort offers a tranquil setting as well as activities for children of all ages. There are approximately 150 partially grassed stands for caravans and tents, most with 15 amp electrical outlets, while the self-catering family chalets cater two to six people. These range from bachelor-style chalets for two people to two-bedroom units.

Berg River Cafe provides essentials as well as meals, and catering for small, private functions and group bookings can also be arranged. Please note that some of the facilities will be closed for the winter from May till end of September. Please note that we cater for couples and families (parents with school going children) only.

Due to the ongoing drought in the Western Cape the water level in the river has dropped significantly to the point that the river has stopped flowing all together . This will be the situation till we receive enough rain for the authorities to release water from the Berg River Dam.

Berg River Resort and the adjoining farm have no access to Municipal water. The use of our own alternative water sources from boreholes and the river means that the pools and water slide will continue to operate during this summer. The water restrictions which apply for Municipal water also apply to clients water use at the Resort. This is to ensure that every effort is made collectively to reduce water consumption and comply with Government regulations.

  • "Adequate stay"

    06 March 2017

"The reception staff friendly. The chalet was very convenient and well equipped for our stay. The embankment by the chalet and grass verge for relaxing and kids to play, well kept and beautiful views up the river. I do feel the facilities are in need of upgrade and maintenance. Super tube fun for the kids but expensive for a long stay, another resort I visit annually super tube not charged for and surround is well kept and beautiful."

    14 March 2016

"Great peaceful time. It is pricey but you get your value for money. Kids has a lot to do like driving their bicycles, super tube, swimming in river and pool, putt-putt, etc. The showers hot water has a high pressure which makes the showers superb. This is a perfect place to have your first camping experience. <br />"

  • "Dissapointed"

    26 February 2016

"I was very dissapointedi in the campsite as the ablutions were not up to scratch. There was only one shower in the area we were camping and there was only cold water. The shower drain was blocked and the shower was full of water. The pipe outside the toilet was overflowing out of the blockage cap and there was human faeces lying in the path to the bathroom.<div>At R380 a couple I feel the campsite was over priced for the amenities offered.</div><div><br /><div><br /></div></div>"

  • "Berg River Resort Camp site"

    06 January 2014

"The 5 days we spend there were great. Waking up every morning on the river bank was the best. Enjoyed the mornings and the evenings most. The count down to 2014 was half way to Blekkies dorp and enjoyed the morning walk at 2h30 back to our tent. And yes we were allowed to make lots of noise into the new year."

  • "Relaxing"

    02 December 2013

"Big camping at the Berg River, They have a few nice chalets with river view.Big 25 m pool. The place can be overcrowded with day visitors. Evenings are quiet. They don't provide towels. You can rent one for R 20."

  • "Blustery Berg River!"

    29 July 2013

"We arrived at the Berg River Resort around 17h00 on Friday evening. The check-in was seamless, and we were directed to chalet No 10. I was rather smaller than we had anticipated, but it was spotlessly clean. It did not stop pouring down for the whole night. in the morning the river was well above its normal level. The Electric kettle "Shorted out and tripped the electricity in the chalet. there was a cleaning crew at the chalet next door, and they radioed the office and a new kettle was delivered within 10 minutes, and the electricity switched on again. The rain did not stop the whole of Saturday, so we decided to leave early on Sunday. we checked out around 10h00, and the chalet was checked and the breakage deposit was returned."

    Joe McDonagh, South Africa
  • "Noise at night was bad"

    25 March 2013

"The resort is convenient for a weekend away, has nice facilities and is well situated. My concern is noise level is unbearable. On Friday and Saturday night we couldn’t sleep properly. Further, the lights should perhaps be switched off at night, especially those close to the camp sites."
