Mai offers a choice of four comfortable, spacious bedrooms with evaporative air-cooling, each has its own en-suite bathroom. Each room also has DSTV, a fridge-freezer and all you need for making tea and coffee. One room has a double and a single bed, two rooms have queen-size beds and single beds, and there is a family room with a double bed and bunk beds. We regret we cannot accommodate children under six. No pets.Prince Albert offers art galleries, craft shops, star watching with an astronomer, a ghost walk, a local storyteller, the state-of-the-art Showroom Theatre, a fascinating village museum and a wide range of architectural styles including examples of a local gable. Massage treatments, Reiki, facials, manicures, pedicures and yoga classes can be enjoyed in the village. Mai can recommend coffee shops and restaurants for teas, light lunches and dinners. In the district you can enjoy visits to wine cellars, farms, guided walks in the veld, 4x4 and hiking trails and day trips into the Swartberg Pass, to Oudtshoorn and the Karoo National Park. The Swartberg Mountains are a World Heritage Site. Prince Albert is 400 km from Cape Town and 200 km from the nearest airport in George. Nestling against the Swartberg Mountains, it grew from a farm called Kweekvallei which was established in 1762 on the banks of a river whose source is from the sparkling springs in the Swartberg Mountains. The life-giving water was used to good effect to create an oasis in the otherwise dry Great Karoo. It still runs through the streets in bubbling furrows, nurturing fragrant gardens and adding a gentle murmur to the tranquil streets.Your hostess, Mai, offers the very best of Irish hospitality and accommodation in Prince Albert. Cead mile failte Hundred thousand welcomes. Mais Guest Lodge received a Certificate of Excellence for 2012, 201, 2014, 2015 and 2016 from Tripadvisor.

"We loved staying at Mai's! Her rooms are beautifully decorated! Mai has a wonderful sense of humor and was so helpful. She booked us a table at the hotel for dinner, she found out the times of the dairy - she was a great host. Her breakfast was stunning! I will definitely stay there again and again! What a treat! Thank you Mai. You are true to the Irish saying on your board - a hundred thousand welcomes! We felt so welcome!"

    23 March 2014

"The bedroom was very comfortable and nicely furnished with little extras that are often not seen at B&Bs. Good breakfast to set you up for the day, and a sparkling cool pool to lounge at after exploring Prince Albert on foot. The hostess, Mai, is a real treat."

  • "Fabulous!"

    21 February 2014

"Mai's is a home-from-home in the heart of Prince Albert. Mai knows everything & everybody and runs a fantastic lodge with the most delicious breakfasts under the vines. The pool is a must on hot Karoo days and chaise lounges are provided with cushions for reading and relaxing. Her cats are a joy and she is a caring animal lover naming each stray and having a special bond with her feral friends. Next door is the hotel with good dinners and lunches. The rooms are air conditioned, cosy, eclectic and comfortable. Not to be missed - you arrive as a guest and leave as a friend!"
