Shiloh Shalom

Shiloh Shalom is situated on the river banks in Riastuine in the North West Province, on the border of the Free State. We have a large lapa where any function can be held with a swimming pool next to it.

We offer spacious campsites for caravans and tents on the grass with trees. All the campsites share the clean ablution facilities, electricity points and braai facilities. We also have five round-roof chalets, sleeping four guests in each on single beds. The chalets are situated on a small island under lots of trees with shade. There is a communal fully equipped kitchen and ablution facilities for the chalets.

The little country town of Parys is literally next to the Riastuine, and lies on the southern banks of the Vaal River. Parys is essentially a farming community, but it has also become a popular town to visit, particularly because of its proximity to Johannesburg.

There are some great hiking trails in and around the town and up in the countryside that surrounds Parys. The town itself is scattered with art, antiques and coffee shops for some browsing.

  • "Breathtaking"

    30 April 2018

"I give Shiloh Shalom 10/10, we enjoyed our 3days camping so much and I would recommend it to anyone who loves nature, camping, fishing, swimming or just outdoor games. It is so clean, bathrooms are clean with hot water, there is also a neat kitchen whereby we are allowed to use the stove and fridge for people on campsites and the people there are welcoming."

  • "Nice location, Terrible Experience"

    29 December 2017

"We came to Shiloh Shalom two years ago to camp and fish and had no problems, besides that the only ablution blocks were quite far from the camping sites beyond the point. This year we had a terrible experience. The fishing was amazing, but the rest wasn't. We asked for a specific spot and were told that it was no problem and we could have that spot. We arrive at around 10, and there are day visitors in our spot. The owner did speak to them, but told us that they were leaving at 4pm and didn't mind if we set up while they were there, they took up the WHOLE fishing spot, we could set up our tent but not our goodies below by the fishing spot. We decided not to fight with the owner. The day visitors only left around 3pm and by the time we were set up the day was gone. The next day when my fiance wanted to go have a shower that night, the men's bathrooms were locked and he felt too embarrassed to use the ladies. Christmas day comes, both the ladies and men's ablution facilities are locked, luckily by the point close to where we were camping, there was a toilet (one toilet) that we could at least use, it didn't smell great, and had no tap inside the shack to wash your hands in, but I would've taken any toilet (I'm a woman, I can't just go anywhere like a man unless I want to get an infection). We had organised with the owner for 4 day visitors (one on the 24th and 3 on the 25th), which we paid for when we paid our balance. My family come through on the 25th and were told we didn't pay for them and were told to pay again, we didn't want to ruin anyone's Christmas so we left it and thought we'd get the money back when we leave. There were tons of day visitors on Christmas day and the ablution facilities stayed locked. When my family were leaving, we decided to try and see if the showers were open, and again they were closed. The 26th was the pits, we tried the bathrooms AGAIN, and they were locked AGAIN. I managed to get hold of one of the cleaning ladies at the bathroom (who literally unlocked, walked in, and walked out), and she said that she can't keep it unlocked for us to have a quick shower and that the owner gave two other campsites the keys which we were not made aware of. My fiance had not been able to bath since before we left home on the 23rd, I had luckily had a shower on the 24th because the ladies was open. We are shy introverts and keep to ourselves and decided to just bath out of a bucket back at our campsite, as none of the other campers said anything to us when we lost our cool every time we went to the facilities to find them locked, they watched us and said nothing. The afternoon of the 26th day visitors arrive and want to fish close to us, which we had no problem with, until their child started teasing our dogs and their parents wouldn't tell them to stop. With our dogs being unhappy and constantly barking at these people's noise and teasing, not having a proper shower in days, we decided to start packing up, to which the day visitors asked if we're leaving, when we said we are, they just started moving their things over. WE WEREN'T EVEN DONE PACKING UP. This place has amazing views and it is fun to fish and be out of the city, but they NEED to upgrade their ablution facilities, stop locking them because they don't want the day visitors messing up the bathrooms (this is what the owner told my grandparents when they were paying), and only letting two campsites have keys without telling the rest of us. They need to mark out booked camping spots and not allow day visitors to take over said spots and if they do, ask them to move instead of letting their camping customers wait to set up and enjoy their stay while the day visitors enjoy themselves in a paid for spot. There needs to be more control over day visitors and possibly another ablution facility down by the point. Another huge thing was people didn't have their dogs on leashes, my two small dogs were on leashes at all times besides when they were sleeping in the tent or close to us when no one was around. I saw 5 dogs over the span of our stay that weren't on leases, three of which had barking matches with my dogs, who I could at least control because they were on leashes, but I couldn't do much when other peoples' dogs come running up to mine with owners just moaning at them and fetching them like it's all a big joke. We left a day early (lost about R300), we didn't want to fight for our money back because we were just tired, our dogs were upset and we just wanted to get home. We will not be coming back unless there are serious improvements, the prices are the best I've seen, but I still feel like I should be able to go to the bathroom and shower in clean facilities and be checked in and allowed to set up in the spot I paid for when I do."

  • "The arrival"

    04 December 2017

"Let me be very honest. The people are very friendly , but , the campsites needs to be upgraded very urgently. The ablution blocks are clean but also needs upgrading very urgently. Day visitors are very noisy with loud music and I mean very loud . We left one day earlier because of the day visitors that came on Sunday and chased us from our camping site while we were still packing . Sorry but I would not recommend Shaloh Shalom for campers. Regards Sarel"
