The Royal at Richmond

The Royal at Richmond offers self-catering units in the heart of the great Karoo and book town of Richmond. On offer are four charming units, each named after mid 1800 travellers such as Thomas Baines and Cornwallis.

The rooms comprise three two-bedroom units and one three-bedroom unit. They sleep between four and six guests respectively. Each unit comes with a bathroom to share, a living room and a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering. Guests can enjoy comfortable accommodation in a mix of double and twin beds with all bedding included. Rooms are fully furnished in Karoo inspired dcor.

The Royal at Richmond is situated within close proximity to three restaurants, a dozen bookshops, the town museum and the local supermarket. The 150-year-old houses have been carefully renovated to maintain their original character and will definitely interest visitors who have a keen insight in historical architecture.

  • "Very nice space"

    06 January 2014

"Very nice space with interesting furniture and well equipped. Only problem was that power went off at about 9pm, we couldn't find the db box and the contact person didn't answer his phone. So no power or lights for the rest of our stay!"

  • "It's really royal"

    20 October 2013

"We stayed there to spend a night on our way back to Joburg. John was very friendly. The place has big rooms, a fireplace a fully equipped kitchen but above all you will find a vinyl player plus a big collection of records. We loved this place."

  • "Totally our cuppa BnB Guest House"

    15 October 2013

"We loved it. Antiquity in true South African / Victoriana tradition. Large rooms, shabby chic yet extremely comfortable. Self Catering has everything you need for overnight stop but rather stay two at least. The gramophone and 33RPM records are enough to keep one absorbed for days."

  • "Homely atmosphere"

    07 January 2013

"What a pleasantly surprising transformation Richmond has undergone since our last visit in 2008! The accommodation was lovely and the service friendly. Add to that a choice of quaint restaurants and the stay-over here becomes a must for any road trip to the Cape."

  • "Lovely town"

    11 January 2012

"Wat 'n pragtige dorpie. Wens ons was vroeg daar om langer al die huisies te verken. Ons slaapplek was netjies en baie gerieflik. Sal graag weer daar wil bly. Beautiful town. Wish we arrived earlier to stay longer and and get to know the houses. Our accommodation was neat and very comfortable. Would want to stay here again."
