Cheese Farm and Lodge

Nestled between Mtubatuba and St. Lucia and surrounded by lush forest Cheese Farm and Lodge is found. It is a small family run cheesery only 4 km on a dirt road from the main R618 road.

Shortly after starting to produce cheese a small shop was built. Here the public were invited to taste and buy the cheeses. This soon became very popular and had to be expanded to accommodate the many guests who visited.

The lodge offers four comfortably furnished small two sleep self-catering units as well as four family units.
New to our lodge is our 3 Bedroom Chalet that can cater for large groups

There is a restaurant where you can have a great breakfast, lunch. Dinner can be arranged and will be taken to your unit.
Children take pleasure in the way of milking goats.

The farm offers a range of exceptional cheeses, a farm shop, kids play area and mini golf, a swimming pool and Cheese Tours.

The Cheese farm is open all year for farm and dairy tours and all your events.
The farm shop and restaurant is closed on 25th December and 1st January

  • "No highlight"

    29 July 2018

"Felt a little more love and care could be put into the cottages. People very friendly but things like no soap for showering a bit of a poor show at that price"

  • "Not worth the money"

    30 April 2018

"owner needs to be a bit friendly to guestsrooms are not sound proof you can hear people on the other rooms there is no secure parking muddy when it rains road leading to the place not suitable for small cars there is spider webs in the room"

  • "Lovely place, very happy with our choice"

    08 November 2014

"Its located about 15 minutes away from St Lucia. Its a beautiful and peaceful place. My kid loved all the animals, and the owners had many details with her, like letting her play with a puppy and with a baby goat. Service was good.Beware the restaurant has a schedule, be sure to check it and make any special requests in due time. The room was spacious and clean, with a small kitchen. We did have a few problems with the heater of the shower, as it was difficult to maintain the desired temperature, and at 4.30 am didnt heat up. They worked on it promptly, but i suggest you check it at arrival. Their cheese was good. We enjoyed our stay and would love to come back"

  • "Fail to impress"

    13 October 2014

"Pictures are misrepresenting the place. There basically no place to have picnics, no place to tan in the sun, no open grass plains which you expect from a cheese farm. The swimming pool is very small and situated in the middle of the restaurant areas. The rooms aren't sound proof. There's no view from any of the windows - unless you fancy the owners' boat. Need to drive a 4km gravel road to locate the place which can be quite bumpy in a sedan."

  • "Chane Cheese Farm"

    07 January 2014

"We went from 26 December 2013 to6 January 2014.The farm is +- 28 kilometres from St Lucia and 8 Km from Mthubathuba. There is a 4 kilometre dirt road that you travel to get to the farm. the road is not the best and when it rains it is bad for a car that has a low body range. Accommodation is clean when we arrived. That was unfortunately it. The linen was not changed in the entire time we were there. Neither was the towels. The unit and the other 4 round us did not have a steady temperature of water. The water would be either scolding hot or cold. U could not set it to a desirable level as the water dint go from cold to hot. Taking young kids with was also a problem as you could not bath them. The water we drank was also the cause that we had to rush to hospital at 2;30 in the morning as our son and myself became sick. my wife was ok as she didn't drink the water. Nether the less its very quite on the farm. We decided to leave early as we could not live in those circumstances.Rather get a place closer to St. Lucia. I cannot recommend this place to anyone who has children."

  • "Basic accomodation in central location"

    25 December 2013

"Our stay in a two bedded unit was not as comfortable and conducive to a relaxed holiday as we were led to believe from the information on the website. We found that the accommodation had the following drawbacks: water supply was interrupted four times in seven days, no hot water available in kitchen sink or basin in the bathroom, bathroom basin was located in the shower cubicle, only one chair provided in the unit sleeping 2 people, no plugs in either of the basins and certain basic kitchen utensils were not supplied e.g. Bread knife, and only 3 tables provided outside to be shared by 4 units. There is also little privacy as all 4 units share the same outside space. The shower was unpleasant as we found it extremely difficult to get a balance between boiling hot and very cold water. The positive aspects relating to the accommodation were that the unit was clean and well located for travel to St Lucia, Umfolozi, Cape Vidal and Richards Bay areas. Other positives were that the air conditioner worked very well, the beds were comfortable and the management were amenable to correcting some of the above drawbacks where they could."

  • "Many thanks"

    11 November 2013

"We recently stayed with you whilst on a short visit to relatives in South Africa. We had a very pleasant stay and were particularly impressed by the warm welcome we were shown by your staff. We arrived late for supper and though I am sure the kitchens had closed, we were offered a full menu and the meal was brought to our patio, the brai was lit and we were left to enjoy our evening. Our children had a lovely swim in the pool before bed. In the morning we asked to eat before the breakfast service was due to start as we had to leave early. Nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast was very nice. The rooms were clean and tidy and we would recommend the Cheese farm to anyone travelling to the St Lucia area in the future. Many thanks."

  • "Very hospitable staff"

    10 November 2013

"We have recently had a very pleasant stay at the Cheese Farm. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were really hospitable. The room was clean and tidy and supper was served to us despite the fact that the kitchen had closed. Many thanks for an enjoyable stay."

  • "Excellent"

"Food and service was excellent - thank you."

  • "A picture hides a thousand mistakes!"

    14 October 2013

"The pictures of the accommodation on the website were very misleading. Had we known that we were paying R550.00 to spend the night in a glorified "maids room", there would have been no way that we would have booked!"

  • "Nice"

    17 July 2013

"A very cosy and comfortable stay, and our kids loved seing the goats and cows. So quiet and serene in the forest... a far cry from the hustle of the city. A pity though that we were only informed upon our arrival that the kitchen would be closed the following morning and we would not be able to have breakfast. So a suggestion to future guests: double check with owner beforehand."

  • "Great service"

  • "Home away from home"

    27 May 2013

"My wife and I spend our honeymoon in St Lucia where we were welcomed by Chane Cheese Farm's hospitality. We were surprised with a cold bottle sparkling wine to celebrate. We were upgraded to a family room which was very spacious and had a fully equipped kitchenette. We will go back any day."

  • "Gorgeous!"

    27 May 2013

"I love when you stay somewhere and it's not like the rest of them. Lovely homely feel, very helpful and friendly owner, clean rooms and absolutely delicious dinner! One of the best pizzas I've ever had and the cheeseboard was amazing!"

  • "Away from the maddening crowds"

    02 April 2013

"Chane Cheese Farm and Lodge provided tranquil surronds with friendly service! We stayed in the comfey and cosey couples unit. Finishing touches such as crisp white bath towels and delicious turkish delights left on our beds on arrival was lovely. The service from Nicky and her husband was fantastic. Their restuarant was lovely - I highly recommend the Chane Special pizza - it was delicious. Set in between the game parks (to the left) & St Lucia village (to the right) this spot provided a good central location, away from the crazy crowds within the village itself. Quiet, peaceful with pretty surronds - We highly recommend!! Many thanks to all at Chane Cheese Farm!!"
