Lord's Guest Farm

Rest in the seclusion of a rustic Eastern-Karoo farmstead nestled at the foot of a beautiful mountain range and overlooking the open Karoo plains. Lesley and Michael Lord invite you to the tranquility of their farm in the Eastern Karoo. Leave your stress at the farm gate and allow the scenic beauty, rustic farmhouse, fresh air and open spaces to fill your soul with peace.

The farm has no electricity but there is plenty hot water from wood-burning geysers. The lighting is solar powered and paraffin lamps and candles are provided. The farmhouse has a gas stove and a fridge for self-catering. The courtyard offers braai facilities and wood is supplied. The house sleeps up to 14 people and the farm is entirely private so guests have full use of the property.

We offer a challenging 4x4 route, hiking, mountain and quad bike trails amidst magnificent mountain views. Together with these activities, the mountain splash pool, birdwatching and photography offer an outdoor experience which will delight you.

  • "The freshly baked, farm style apple crumble, with fresh farm whipped cream. Absolutely delicious!"

    17 April 2018

"We absolutely loved our stay, and were sorry that we were not able to stay another few days. The old Farm House is set on a magnificently pristine old Karoo farm, at the base of a mountain, with lots of wildlife ... we saw an aardvark on driving in, on our first night of arrival. The Lord family met us on the road, drove with us to the Farm House, and made sure we were settled in. It felt like we were being welcomed by distant family that we hadn't seen for a long time. They even had a warm, freshly baked apple crumble dessert and farm cream, as a welcome gift. What a treat! I would highly recommend this hidden gem."

  • "Nice and restful"

    16 January 2018

"Having stayed at Lord's for four days, I would echo what the previous reviewers have said. In addition, I would comment that Michael and Lesley are the nicest people you can meet, and the kind that you would wish to have as friends living alongside you in your neighbourhood. I met Lesley only once at the end, but noticed in my several dealings with Michael that he has a sensitive, caring nature that is quite unusual. I live far away in KZN but would really love to meet them again. Stay well, both of you !"

  • "Steynsburg Gem"

    11 January 2018

"Lovely setting and relaxed atmosphere. Appreciated the home-baked pie at our arrival! The inconsistency in cooling of the gas fridge might be the only issue - but easily overcome by filling up your cooler box with extra ice in Steynsburg. We really enjoyed our stay here and can highly recommend Lord's Guest Farm."

  • "The very personal touch of our hosts"

    05 January 2018

"Muchael and Leslie are exeptional.hosts, their personal touch and extra effort puts this place in a legue of its own. Only two things for possible inprovements, we would have welcomed space in the wardrobes to put our clothes. Matress in main bedroom very hard.. But we will visit again and reccomend to friends!"

  • "Fantastic stay"

    11 January 2017

"We recently stayed over at Lord's Guest Farm on our way to the coast. It was a great experience and a beautiful old farmhouse situated on a quiet and peaceful farm. Michael and Lesley were great hosts. We were spoiled with homemade apple pie on our arrival and also when we needed some extra freezing space Michael quickly sorted that for us. I would recommend Lord's Guest Farm and would definitely visit them again!

Establishment Response:

Hi Hanneri

Thank you for your review of your stay with us; much appreciated.

We trust that you had a wonderful holiday at the coast.

Kind Regards

Michael & Lesley Lord"

  • "Great hositality"

    17 December 2016

"Every time we stay at Lords guest house they show hospitality that is beyond. We arrive late on our way to the coast and they always provide us with a welcome that is rarely seen. The accommodation is great and love that old farm feel that we get to stay. Not only is the view and surrounds something we rarely see in JHB. All I can say is thanks guys for a great stay."

  • "Verblyf Lords Guest farm"

    09 January 2013

"Dit was baie meer as wat ons verwag het. Gasheer baie aangenaam en spyt ons kon nie langer bly en kuier nie. Die natuur en sterre was pragtig. Baie dankie en ons sal definitief weer terug gaan maar hierdie keer nie net oornag nie maar langer vertoef."

  • "Karoo experience"

    27 October 2011

"The hosts were very welcoming. We had a wonderful Karoo experience, with peaceful, distant views and starlit nights without the intrusion of electric lights. One criticism is that the beds could do with firmer bases and mattresses."
