• "Very friendly and hospitable hostess"

    06 January 2018

"Lovely garden with place for children to play. Very helpful and caring hostess. The only advice I would give is to suggest that a top sheet be supplied when weather is hot as a duvet is a bit too warm"

  • "Great Hospitality"

    24 July 2017

"We only stayed 1 night, but were met with great hospitality. Our room was spacious, comfortable and warm which was great as it was freezing outside. We were provided with a delicious evening meal, which all of us including my 6 and 8 year girls old loved! The highlight for my girls was definitely playing with the dogs in the morning. Would definitely stay there again."

  • "A gem in the middle of nowhere"

    17 January 2017

"We stayed at Shanks as an alternate to Gariep dam. This is a small property with one 4 bed and one 2 bed unit on the farm. My kids had a great time playing with the friendly collie dogs and swimming in the pool. I really found this a good stop over, but it does have about a km of gravel road, so if you have a super low car, give it a skip."

  • "Fabulous farm stay"

    05 January 2017

"What a happy discovery! A beautiful working farm just off the road to Steynsburg; we stayed in the family room, which was spacious comfy and well-equipped. Had a gorgeous walk along the old railway line that runs through the farm, and kids got to meet some of the sheep and working sheepdogs. We enjoyed our delicious roast lamb dinner and the children are determined that we are going back for a longer stay sometime soon."

  • "Great stopover in a beautiful location with a warm welcome"

    14 December 2015

"We stayed at Shanks Farm B&B on the way from Joburg to the coast. It was easy to find and Maureen was a wonderful host. She was very welcoming and served us an amazing roast lamb dinner followed by the best koeksisters l've ever had. It had beautiful views across the Karoo. The rooms are well furnished. My kids loved the garden with the trampoline and swing and were lucky enough to help feed the lambs. Our dog was very welcome too. I recommend this highly and will definitely stay there again."

"We had an excellent stay at Shanks. Our host Maureen acted with extreme professionalism and went out of her way to make us feel at home. The facilities are of a very high quality and were sparkling clean. The food was excellent - a taste of the real Karoo. And the price was more than affordable. I would certainly make a point of staying at Shanks again."
