Storms River Mouth Rest Camp Garden Route SANParks

Where the booming breakers of the Indian Ocean relentlessly pound rocky shores, where temperate high forest and fynbos roll down to the sea in an unspoilt verdant carpet, where ancient rivers carve their paths to the ocean down rocky ravines. This, "the place of much water", is the Tsitsikamma National Park. The heartland of the park stretches some 5 km to sea, protecting a wonderland of inter-tidal life, reef and deep-sea fish.

Dolphins frolic in the breakers, surfing and playing for the sheer joy of life, and the gentle giant of the ocean, the southern right whale visits here, coming inshore to breed. Nature has blessed the Garden Route National Park (Tsitsikamma, Knysna and Wilderness Sections) with a pleasant, temperate climate; it is unique in Africa as the only area in which rainfall occurs throughout the year. And, to cap it all, most of our rain falls at night! It's the ideal climate for a visit - at any time of the year!

There is a variety of fun and adventurous actvities as well as excellent facilities available at the Garden Route National Park ranging from hiking trails, nature walks and much more.

  • "Beautiful sea views"

    18 April 2017

"Clean campsite, good access roads and short travels to other activities. The park is well patrolled by rangers. I was very happy with the stay. Thank you. The only actual issue was that the site signposts were either missing or not visible. In light of the improvement construction work, this is a small issue."

  • "STORMSRIVIERNAWEEK"

    06 March 2017

"Die damesbadkamer by staanplek 11/12 was vuil en die toilette kon nie ordentlik spoel nie. Baie lekker gekuier saam my familie, maar regtig skoonmaakdienste by badkamers baie swak. Ons moes met emmers water in toilet gooi om dit te spoel."

  • "A must see at the Garden Route"

    23 November 2016

"As I drived down to the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp with my daughter - a few years ago - she exclaimed in delight: "The paradise must look similar to this place, isnt it."<br/>We have been there several times, in cabins and in oceanettes - and now in the guest house no 1. The house is phantastic - a pity the view on the phantastic shore of Tsitsikamma is restrained by dense bushes.<br/>Thanks to Safarinow we could book that house as Sanparks did nott have any free accomodation."

  • "Not up to Standard"

    30 October 2016

"Sorry to say:" it is not up to standard". we travelled 18 days and stayed over in 8 places but the accommodation in Stormsriver was the only "let down".The hut was very moldy and needs a thorough clean. There were not enough braai for every hut and only a few braai grids between all the huts so the neigbours nicked our braai of our stoop and then kindly passed it on to someone else. The accommodation did not do the beautifull scenery of the area any justice."

  • "Beautiful place, great stay!"

  • "STUNNING LOCATION"

    16 May 2016

"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp. The location is superb - magnificent views, beautiful surroundings with a lovely trail through the forest to the suspension bridge. Lots of other trails too. Stunning little beach and lots of rock pools to explore. The camp itself is very well maintained. The chalet we stayed in was perfect - spotlessly clean and well maintained with stunning views of the ocean. Loved it and look forward to a return visit."

  • "Storms River"

    20 November 2015

"Well equipped cabin, except that it took us a day to find the braai grid! Comfortable and cosy. Enjoyed our stay. Would return and stay longer.<div><br /></div><div>Only criticism was that the lady at the gate/reception was disinterested and unsmiling. A smile costs nothing and a welcome is one's first impression.</div><div><br /></div><div>Fran and Stuart Winckworth</div>"

  • "Absolutely wonderful!"

    20 September 2015

"Facilities were well maintained. Very comfortable. We really appreciated the wooden shelter from the sea wind around the braai. Fantastic view of the waves crashing over the rocks a few meters from the window. Lovely walk up to the suspension bridge over the Storm River. There is so much tourism potential in our country to be unlocked!"

    17 September 2012

"It was awesome! Paradise, paradise, paradise!"

  • "Spectacular surrounds"

    19 August 2012

"Spectacular surrounds!! Huts and chalets well situated, and well built to fit in with, and maximise on beautiful scenery. Although we had to wait for our hut to be ready, it was clean. I found a lot of staff sitting around at the public facilities, ablutions and kitchen used by the campers and visitors which for me, does not promote a good image of the park: firstly, they should have their own facilitiies to accommodate their their staff needs; and secondly, one got the impression that they are permenently on breaks, even though this might not be the case! More importantly, there should be an estimation of the time it takes to get to the lookout from the suspension bridges and the severity of the walk to help prepare people. Folk were starting to walk up while we were coming down at about 16h30 which can be potentially dangerous in winter, and if you're not that fit!! Having done the Otter trail previously, we did have some clue."

  • "Excellent accommodation and facilities"

    23 January 2012

"The cabin facilities were brilliant and extremely clean. We sent one night in a cabin and one night camping and both were excellent."

  • "Breathtaking views and hikes"

    13 April 2010

"We stayed in one of the ocean units overlooking the sea. Tsitsikamma is such an amazing place - solitude and full of nature activities. We did many hikes and enjoyed the 6 km hike to and fro the Tsitsikamma Waterfall. The river mouth is a spectacular sight. I have to commend SANParks on the ammenities and cleanliness of the accommodation. We saw Knysna Loeries, otters, snakes, dassies and buk. I cannot wait to go back!"
