"We had a lovely time in De Zyfer cottage. Thank you."

  • "Rainstorm"

    12 April 2017

"Early the first evening there was a cloudburst in the park. Our cottage was flooded due to inadequate drainage. We stayed only the one night as the place was not habitable."

"<div>This is my fist stay in Tankwa so I cannot compare it to other facilities but we enjoyed our stay tremendously. Plain and simple - and that is what you need. The clear sky and the quietness is what makes this place so special. </div><div>Die fasiliteite is basies maar daar is alles wat mens nodig het. Dit was 'n ondervinding om weer vir 'n slag 'n donkie aan te steek vir warm water. Mens vergeet hoe die vroere mense geleef het. </div><div>Die plek sien my weer. </div>"

"<p>The roads are horrendous and the so called accommodation is not what is depicted on the website.<span>&nbsp; </span>If you arrive at night there is no way in which you can find the accommodation.<span>&nbsp; </span>There are no shops, no drinkable water or supplies of any kind not like all the other National Parks.&nbsp; A very friendly couple doing their best to make one at home but do not travel this road in a standard car - a 4X4 may be OK but the corrugations are terrible.&nbsp; This made us leave a day after we arrived in spite that we had booked for 2 nights.<span>&nbsp; </span>Signage is all but nonexistent and when it is there it is not clear, very worn and unreadable - especially at night.<span>&nbsp; </span>We saw a total of 5 Springbok in the whole way down from North to South.</p><br />"

  • "Silence and expanse"

"One goes to the Tankwa for quiet, for wide open spaces and for stargazing. Be aware that it is a 6 hour drive from Cape Town and not a 4,5hour drive as the Sanparks website suggests: the last 2 hours are all along dirt roads. A vehicle with high clearance is advisable, and be sure that your spare tyre is at the ready. De Zyfer cottage is an old farm cottage - no electricity or cell reception, so everything is candle lit. If you want a hot shower you'll have to get the donkey boiler going. The cottage is nicely appointed, comfortable beds and warm throws. The kitchen has a 2 plate stove top that runs on gas. The fridge runs on solar power and is slightly unreliable. Don't pack meat for your last night, eat it on the first night! The cottage is rustic but good value for money. It is 3km away from the reception, and has a good porch view of the Roggeveld mountains. All in all a good budget holiday for peace and rest."

  • "Endless starry skies, absolute quiet!"

    04 September 2014

"A beautiful stark destination, but make sure you are very prepared if you choose to camp. There are no facilities!I feel that it should be made very clear that there is no water, no shade, no toilet facilities, no food to buy, distances to reception is very far from the campsite on the park roads. If this information had been adequately conveyed to us we would have either not booked that particular camping option or gone more prepared."

  • "Fantastic stay"

    10 September 2012

"Although our booking was not done correctly - we booked a house and ended up at the old farmhouse with common living area - the stay in the end was great."

  • "Tankwa Guest House"

    19 May 2012

"We were very excited to go on our 4-day (3 night) Karoo trip. It is our mission to visit all the National Parks. Unfortunately the accommodation was not what we were expecting. We were under the impression that we would pool but Tankwa Guest House is what we got and no pool. The accommodation was spacious in a "fort" but in dire need of TLC and maintenance. The kitchen cupboards are falling apart. The dishes available do not fit in the appliances i.e. oven dish too big for microwave and no oven! On arriving, both gas bottles were empty this we discovered at night after a dusty 4x4 drive! It was left up to the cleaning lady to move the full big gas bottle so we had to assist her. Its a beautiful park and we will go back but would like to see some improvements to the accommodation."

"A beautiful place. It's like a moonscape at night - with a full moon - spectacular!"

  • "Lovely stay"

    15 March 2012

"It was a lovely stay! Wilderness Camp was a unique experience! Thank you."

  • "Elandsberg Cottage"

    17 November 2011

"It is isolated, but in a very nice location with wonderful views towards the mountains, and completely private. The cottage is tastefully built with a stylish interior. The so-called splash pool needs attention and was not usable."

  • "The driest place in the wettest time"

    12 August 2011

"We came down the Gannaka Pass into the wide open spaces of Tankwa with lots of flowers. We travelled in a small sedan and could go almost everywhere. What an experience. Friendly staff, lovely accommodation, lots of beautiful views. Must get out of your car and walk around and smell, listen, touch, look and just enjoy!"

  • "Great getaway stay"

    16 March 2011

"The cottage has great facilities and a nice array of birds nearby the dam. Will possibly visit in winter as well."
