Shamballa Sanctuary

Shamballa comprises 1200 hectares of Ceres and Tankwa Karoo plains, that rise up into the Swartruggen Mountains. A true haven of silence, contemplation, retreat and replenishment for body, mind and soul, where the open plains expand the mind, and the mountains open the heart.

Words cannot easily convey the magic of this lonely and enchanting veldt. A secret kingdom, a mountainous fortress, an unspoilt wilderness blessed with tranquility, serenity, peace and seclusion, faraway from the stress and tension of urban life.

Shamballa Retreat is a venue for small intimate workshops, private group or family getaways, artist or writers retreats, and the occasional wedding. Most power requirements are either solar or wind driven. Our newly established organic vegetable garden is an exciting project in our endeavors to be more self-sufficient. Meals can be provided for an extra charge with prior arrangement.

Only two and a half hours from Cape Town, Shamballa is a paradise for nature lovers offering spectacular walks, treks, mountain biking, bird watching and contemplation.
