Rocky Road Backpackers

Rocky Road Backpackers is set in a five-hectare smallholding amidst indigenous forest and open grazing pastures located in The Crags, approximately 20 km east of Plettenberg Bay.

Rocky Road is the gateway between the countrys Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces and is ideally situated to provide superb accommodation for all travellers. We are 15 minutes away from the world's highest bungee jump at Bloukrans Bridge and a mere 10-minute drive down a spectacular mountain pass to the unspoiled Natures Valley Beach in the Tsitsikamma National Park.

Rocky Road is far from the daily bustle of urban living. From our well-maintained gardens we enjoy spectacular views of the Tsitsikamma Mountain Range as well as Peak Formosa - the highest in the range. Our adjoining three-hectare forest has an easy trail to view our streams, waterfall and rock pool. Our in-house adventure centre, Rocky's Adventures, will help you make the most of our nearby ocean, scenic sandy beaches, rugged mountains, river gorges and estuaries, as well as numerous varied wildlife attractions.

Your options for accommodation range from fully equipped double or twin Luxury Tents which overlook the indigenous forest to Cottages, timber cabins and hostel-style Dormitories. You are also welcome to pitch your own tent in our attractive garden. Our two large entertainment areas have numerous fireplaces and braai pits, a well-stocked lively bar and our hot tub splash pool facilities. These are great areas in which to mingle with fellow travellers. We also have an indoor big screen TV area for special events whilst our separate office area provides Internet access and free Wi-Fi.

Shuttle services to all local activities and places of interest between Storms River and Plettenberg Bay are available, as are regular runs to Nature's Valley.

"Wanting to go camping .. but with my wife who had never camp before we settled with something 'in-between' a luxury tent..Set in a beautiful location close to many tourist destinations the Rocky Road backpackers is an ideal place to stay; great friendly staff. The only disappointment really was the value for money - I feel the price charged and what little we got was quite disproportionate... also not the cleanest - but understandable as it is outside...Overall a good stay and a good vacation. I would certainly recommend ...Loved the outdoor shower"
