Tarn Country House

The 4-Star Tarn Country House is situated within the Whiskey Creek Nature Reserve, in the heart of the Garden Route. This is where the Tsitsikamma and Outeniqua Mountains overlap and meet the Indian Ocean. You can find us between Plettenberg Bay and Natures Valley, a few short kilometres from the spectacular coastline and sandy beaches.

We offer a choice of eight charmingly decorated and spacious bedrooms. We have both twin bedded or double rooms. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower, and its own private entrance. Delicious breakfasts, either English or Continental, are served on the patio overlooking the sprawling gardens or inside next to a cosy fireplace.

We are happy to make your dinner reservations at any restaurant in and around Plettenberg Bay. We offer a shuttle service for those guests who do not feel inclined to drive to a restaurant in the evening.

  • "Home comforts in a beautiful setting"

    05 July 2016

"We had a delightful stay in a beautiful country setting in the Crags, overlooking the hills and forests. The well kept garden and spacious rolling lawns, as well as the bird songs, complement the serenity of the surroundings. Relaxing on loungers at the poolside in the warm afternoon sun was therapeutic. The sunsets were spectacular!<div><br /></div><div>But even more impressive was the attention paid to us by our hostess, Erica, who made sure we were comfortable and well fed! Dinner and breakfast, cooked by her with obviously fresh ingredients and herbs from the garden, were delicious and well presented. Meals were served with a choice of good wine in the dining room at the fireside. The fact that we could relax in the lounge before dinner in front of a huge roaring fireplace was a welcome bonus.</div><div><br /></div><div>All in all, a wonderfully relaxing weekend!</div>"

  • "Great food, service and surroundings."

    25 November 2006

"The food was consistently excellent - even down to the marmalade at breakfast! The service was great, and the room was very comfortable. There's a nice walk you can take from the grounds, down into a valley behind the property to a river which is great. My only disappointment was that the busy N2 is really quite close by, and you can hear the traffic quite clearly from the grounds. It's not a big deal, but it's not quite the rural ideal it could be if it were a couple of miles off the main highway.<

For the last 6-8 month there have been roadworks on the N2 in front of our turnoff, to increase the comfort of driving along the Garden Route. All the curves of the N2 have been greatly improved. During the process heavy machinery was used and indeed the noise level increased considerably. The N2 is South Africa's highway no 1. We as well are grateful, that the roadworks have been finished off eventually. The road from Knysna to Stormsriver is now magnificent and in it's best state ever. The noise level dropped tremendously and all is back to normal. Kind RegardsHeidi"
