Granny Dot's Country Spot

A family homestead for 70 years, this friendly guest house, scenically perched on 28 hectares of rolling green hills in the farming district of Agatha, 16 km above Tzaneen, overlooks the magnificent Wolkberg mountains, forests and waterfalls. Abundant bird life, you may see small game. Hike to the dam, relax by the secluded pool or visit the numerous scenic attractions in our area.

Unwind in front of the roaring log fire in winter, enjoy a friendly chat in our cosy pub and then a delicious prearranged dinner. Here you will find genuine hosts who go that extra mile to make your stay a memorable one, 3 km of farm road. Mobile coverage is limited but we do have Wi-Fi in all rooms.

"Joyce and Richard are great hosts. They make you feel at home and are very caring people. Our children and grandson were in Badgers Den and my wife and I were in the Snuggery. Both were very comfortable and a fire was made for us in the evenings. Internet is not available due to the location, but with the view from the accommodation, who cares."

"Wonderful place with amazing views!<div>We enjoyed our stay so much, Snuggery which we stayed in was very comfy and had big room with the fireplace and kitchenette. A lot of space in bathroom to put all the creams/lotions - very useful for girls travelling :) and overlooked in many establishments.</div><div>Thank you Joyce and Richard - we had great time!</div>"

"<p class="MsoNormal">We stayed in Badgers Den, a large private 3 (actually 4)bedroom house. The house is close to the main house, but totally private withits own garden. The views are awesome, it is out of this world, mountains andplantations, and more mountains! The fireplace is wonderful, the wood free, andthe house was serviced every day!<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">The house is basic, not luxury but everything you need!<o:p></o:p></p>"

  • "Awesome!"

    18 January 2016

"What a beautifultropical farm stay. Joyce and Richard were the most amazing people who made our stay even better than we could have imagined, their hospitality has not been matched. Thegrounds are massive with many places to walk and so many different types of creatures to see. The accommodation isvery spacious, clean and private. It was as though we had found a new home. Swimming in the pool overlookingthe mountains in theevening was just magical. The pictures online don't do any justice and everywhere we went on the property provided new sites and wonders. It was quiet and a perfect place to relax.I would absolutely recommend this stay to anyone and will be going back again as soon as possible. If you have a large group, this would be perfect for all. So much more to say but I can't articulate how perfect this place is."

"We visited Granny Dots for a short weekend get away from the city. We opted for self catering and everything was found. It was definitely a good decision. If your looking for 5star accommodation then this isn't for you but if you're looking for a home away from home feel that's comfortable with views that are just mesmerizing then I would highly reccommend Granny Dot's Country Spot. It was so peaceful and the hosts were friendly and accomodating."

"We used this as a stopover between the Waterberg and Kruger and it was ideally located, easy to find and what a stunning location. The accommodation in Badger's Den was spacious and, while not luxurious, offered great value for money. The hosts are wonderful and Joyce was helpful from the moment of my first enquiry through to our departure."

  • "Great views and hospitality"

    09 December 2013

"Wow - we just returned home from our short weekend at Granny Dot's and we were very sad to leave. Beautiful views all around - mountains with lush vegetation, abundant bird-life and lovely hosts who run the place. We turned up very unprepared after our rush out of Johannesburg and forgot the basics such as milk and bread (we were staying in a self catering room), however Joyce and Richard were more than happy to give us the essentials! We promptly booked in for breakfast the next morning, which was delicious. We ended off our stay with a quick hike to the dam accompanied by the farm's 3 dogs, who were very happy and friendly and bounded ahead of us. Definitely a place to stay if you want to relax and enjoy nature - we're already planning our next trip back!"

  • "Rest for the soul"

    08 June 2011

Ek het my vier-maande-oue maltese hondjie, Lucy, saamgeneem. Tot sy het tuis gevoel! Beslis 'n plek wat ons weer sal besoek en alreeds aanbeveel het aan baie! Dankie Joyce en Richard vir al jul gasvryheid en harde werk. What a surprise when we arrived at Granny Dot's on Saturday, 4 June. Stunning view, beautiful accommodation, finger licking breakfast and owners that couldn't do enough to make your stay unforgettable. The small extras you receive without asking are great. Tea, shortbread and sherry on arrival drives away the cold instantly! I took my four-month-old puppy, Lucy, with and even she felt at home. Definitely a place we will visit again and have already recommended it to many! Thank you, Joyce and Richard, for your hospitality and hard work."

    17 August 2007

"Granny Dot's spot is remote, but close to Tzaneen. Splendid view of the Northern Drakensberg from the lawn under the palm tree. Very fine owners who treat you with care and joy. Perfect atmosphere at breakfast. Very relaxed! And we enjoyed the 11 km red-cat trail with steep slopes and marvelous trails along the mountain streams. "

  • "Great place to get away from the daily hectic"

    29 April 2007

"Best views we had from any of our rooms (or pools) over a 3 week trip. Everything is clean and of good standard. Helpful owners who are full of advice for local activities. Certainly a good place to get away from the daily hectic. However, quite bumpy farm road through the forest to get to the place (so don't come with a sports car). Standard English breakfast. Lunchbox can be arranged at extra cost. Recommendable."

"Joyce and Richard are really friendly people. My wife and I stayed only for one night in there establishment. However, this very short stay was sufficient to formulate our impression. We felt at home. In addition, we shared an evening braaiwith other guests, which gave us the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with all the interestingpeople sitting around the table inside. We warmly recommend this B&B to all tourists visiting SA.
