  • "Lovely stay off the grid!"

    19 July 2016

"My Hubby and I recently stayed a night while it was icy outside in the winter, and fortunately he could 'basa the donkey' - for those not in the know this is usually an outside drum of water with a fire underneath... and the fire needs to be lit to warm up the water!&nbsp; <br />We had a wonderfully hot bath with a view outside and then lit the fire inside for our supper.<br />There are plenty of paraffin lamps and a gas oven and stove so all great.<br />The bedding was very warm and snug and fresh and clean..&nbsp; we really enjoyed our stay.<br />The view of the valley is gorgeous and we enjoyed sipping our drinks on the stoep watching the sun disappear over the mountains.<br />There are a number of levels inside the house which can be a little disconcerting in the dark night when visiting the bathroom... but besides this it was a wonderful getaway!<br />Do take your own food &amp; drinks... nothing for miles except Angie's G Spot where we had breakfast the next morning... and it is a little tired.<br /><br />We would certainly recommend Cloud Cottage.<br /><br />"

  • "Magical Cottage in a cloud"

    07 September 2015

"Cloud Cottage was truly beautiful with amazing scenery and views. The cottage is very comfortable with all you need, and beautiful at night with candles and oil lamps, very romantic. We will definitely be returning as this was so special, the owners are also very accomodating and lovely people."

  • "Beautiful off-grid cottage, gnarly road to get there"

    07 August 2015

"Lovely off-grid stone cottage on a hillside surrounded by mountain peaks, and warm welcome from Eva and Christopher. The cottage is spacious and beautifully laid out, and the stars at night are spectacular. The cottage has lanterns and candles, gas fridge and stove, fireplace, and donkey for heating water. Not sure if due to recent rains, but the water was the colour of a dirty river, and the donkey takes a while to heat the bath water. The last 11km to cottage is along a dirt road in decent condition except that it's a mountain pass with serious drop offs and only enough room for a single car in many places. Hardly any traffic on this road, but would be difficult for two cars to pass each other, and if road wet from rain, would up the slippery, danger factor. Good to get there in daylight!"

  • "Peace and Quiet at Cloud Cottage"

    18 May 2015

"<p style="text-align: justify;">My trip was a solo motorcycle trip from PE to Cloud Cottage and back via Uniondale down the Langkloof. I just needed somewhere to sleep, braai a steak and have a shower, Cloud Cottage did all of this and more. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">The surroundings are beautiful, and the cottage cozy, comfortable and warm. I enjoyed reading my book next to the crackling fire. The sky was cloud-covered the night I was there and I have never seen the "black" of night so dark that it actually felt "thick".</p><p style="text-align: justify;">You cannot get more off-grid than this; gas fridge, gas stove andparaffin lanterns are all you have other than the fireplace and a donkey to heat your water 30min before you want to shower. And the bed linen was really good quality.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Cloud Cottage is on a working farm and I particularly enjoyed listening to the goats and chickens not far away and watching the horses come down from the hills as the sun was setting. There is also abundant bird life, particularly just before sun-set.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Riding a motorcycle down the dirt pass to Cloud Cottage was also fantastic, but is probably only suited to adventure or dirt bikes.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I will visit again.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p>"

  • "Relax in solitude"

    14 May 2015

"A beautiful location on the Prince Alfred Pass is great for a relaxed retreat away from civilisation. Be aware that the nearest shops are 20km away so plan well for your stay."

  • "Nice Goats cheese"

    11 April 2015

"The owners were most helpful, the mountain paths refreshing to hike, the cottage in audible distance of the mountain streams, the goat milk products delicious and Niklaas (one of the farmhands) very helpful and friendly. The mountain pass (R339) was recently restored after the floods but still a challenge to travel to see the work of Sir Thomas Bains. A must do! <br />"

  • "Comfort in the clouds"

    29 December 2013

"What a charming sight the cottage was as we drove around the corner of the Prince Alfred Pass. The sublime setting is a balm for the soul, and the cottage offers everything any traveller requires. The cottage is well designed, and interestingly constructed around some large boulders. The bed was beautifully comfortable and I loved the fact that the duvet was down and the linen percale. The views are divine from every window and we left feeling that we could have stayed for much longer. Having no electricity and using only candles and lamps added to our wonderful experience. We will certainly be back!"

  • "Peace and quiet"

    13 May 2013

"Spent a very relaxing 2 days at Cloud Cottage. This is the place to let the peace and quiet of nature sink in without any of the distractions of electronic media! Walks amongst the fijnbos (proteas, ericas), soft tinkeling of goats bells, magnificent starry skies at night (also to be enjoyed from the comfort of a hot bath!), mellow glow of oil lamps and firelight and the unassuming, friendly welcome from Christopher. Thank you for a lovely stay!"
