Zion Game Lodge

Zion Game Lodge is an exclusive-use lodge on a 100 hectare Bushveld farm. It offers a perfect getaway for families, friends and small groups. The lodge is situated in the picturesque and malaria-free Waterberg biosphere.

Zion is celebrated for its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and breath-taking sunsets. Zions friendly team will spoil you and make you feel right at home.

Zion Game Lodge offers accommodation in unique rock-art chalets near a sparkling swimming pool. Zion Game Lodge can accommodate groups of up to twenty guests at a time, sharing a fully equipped communal, self-catering kitchen.

The Sunset Deck, or as our guests call it, the Gin and Tonic Lounge, overlooks a small dam and bush landscape and is the ideal place to relax and enjoy a sundowner whilst watching the sun set.

The lodge is owned by John, a wildlife veterinarian, who shares his passion for the Bushveld, trees and animals. His friendly wife, Susan, runs and manages the lodge.

"We were very excited to take our kids to the Game Lodge. Looked forward to the animals and the outdoors. But then on our first night, it became unpleasant. The owner came to tell us to keep the music down. We were a group of 23 and we were the only ones apart from the owners and the staff, at the camp.<div><br /></div><div>The main house is much too close to the bar.</div><div><br /></div><div>Also, most of the our guests were people of colour. So when my friends who happen to be white, arrived the next day after our arrival, my friends heard the owner and his son talk about how glad they are that there are white people there as well.</div><div><br /></div><div>The rooms are nice but on our first night we had no water. We had to walk to another section of the camp and shower where there was water.</div><div><br /></div><div>The owner's wife, Susan, is really amazing and she was helpful in getting us discounts the more the group grew in numbers. Her husband is not really friendly and when they greeted us, he just stared at us like he has seen ghosts.</div><div><br /></div><div>Also be aware - there are security cameras hidden in the bar, in the kitchen and outside that the owners don't tell guests about. So whatever you do, know that Big Brother is watching.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>"

"I wanted to thank Susan and John for an incredible stay at Zion. The lodge is most inviting, it is serene, well kept and the chalets are also comfortable. Everyone loved the game drive and John's knowledge of the flora&fauna. The lapa area is fantastic and although the owners main house is in the property, they didn't interfere at all with the group and were always on-hand to assist where possible. The gravel road to the lodge however, is very bumpy and I strongly suggest you take a sturdy vehicle capable of doing the drive there. City-folk cars might suffer a bit :-) All in all, it was awesome. I wont forget the sundowners on the sundeck or the late night laughs either. I will definitely be back soon."

  • "Privacy a problem"

"The lodge is very nice and comfortable. Everything you need is there. The only down side is privacy since the lodge is right next to the main house. Kids not allowed to ride bicycles on the lawn."

  • "Gorgeous place for rest and relaxation"

    07 January 2013

"What a fantastic place! Perfect for a group that wants to have a common living area but privacy with own rooms and bathroom facilities. We loved the "rainy room" and the boma area. John and Susan are wonderful hosts and the game drives were amazing! Also loved walking in the bush and being so close to the wildlife."

  • "Wonderful stay"

"We had a great stay at Zion Game Lodge, we have been travelling for 7 weeks throughout SA and this was one of our favourite places. John and Susan are wonderful hosts, we especially enjoyed the game drives (with John as a vet being a very knowledgeable guide), the evening campfires and the wonderful meals Susan prepared. The cottages are really pretty, the sundeck is excellent for game viewing and drinks and the swimming pool and jungle gym were much appreciated by our kids. Overall this place is a real find and excellent value for money!"

  • "Peace and tranquillity"

"If you're looking for stunning hospitality, peace and quiet and a really unique bush experience, then Zion is the perfect destination. We were made to feel at home immediately by owners Susan and John, who also took their time to explain the abundance of wildlife and plants on their small reserve. John's knowledge and passion for the great outdoors made our game drives truly unique. The lodge and lapa areas were fantastic, and the viewing deck was our favourite sun-spot!"
