Fairy Knowe Backpackers Lodge is well-positioned, with Wilderness being at the pivot of all that can be enjoyed on the Garden Route. The many adventure attractions of Wilderness are on the doorstep; from amazing hiking trails, to endless beach walks and stunning canoe trips through the Wilderness National Park, to the waterfalls.
The backpackers lodge is set on the Touw River, overlooking the Wilderness National Park Lakes. The old Victorian homestead, built in 1874, is equipped with all of the necessary modern conveniences in a secure beautiful setting, nestled beneath a milkwood forest.
Wilderness is surrounded by many rivers, natural lakes and lagoons, making it an aqua adventure paradise and a great spot for water sport enthusiasts. After a morning of bird and animal watching from a canoe in the Wilderness National Park, you can enjoy horse riding, abseiling, kloofing ,or take a tandem paragliding flight in one of the best locations in South Africa.
Wilderness lies in the middle of the Garden Route and is a great stopover for weary travellers taking a meander down the coast in a rental car, or The Baz Bus hop-on-hop-off backpackers bus service is a convenient flexible and safe way to visit Wilderness. Fairy Knowe is an official Baz Bus Stop so they will drop you off at the front door.
"Beautiful venue, and scenery."
"We booked a camp site thinking it would be like usual camp sites with braai facilities and electricity points. In fact when we arrived it just had a piece of grass next to the drive way. No electricity and you are not allowed to braai on the site. We were unable to stay and had to find ourselves another camp site on Xmas day.In saying that, Fairy Knowe did reimburse me my money and for that I am very grateful. However, please can they specify on their website and particularly on the SafariNow site that its not really a camp site and more just for Backpackers so that families don't book thinking they would get the traditional camping facilities."
