Spear Chukka

Yzerfontein is a quaint fishing village on the West Coast, approximately 80 km from Cape Town on the R27, a perfect holiday location and weekend getaway for rock and surf fishing as well as diving, surfing and boogie boarding or simply enjoying the seaside. Spectacular sea life can be seen at various times throughout the year - whales, seals, dolphins to name a few.

The adjacent vlei's add to the magnificent bird life in the area. The most fascinating being the endangered African Black Oyster Catcher. Flanked with beautiful, untouched, safe beaches stretching all the way along the adjacent West Coast National Park. Yzerfontein also has a picturesque harbour suitable for launching boats.

Spear Chukka has three fully equipped cottages and the main house. The cottages accommodate four; two children and two adults, and the main house accommodates four adults. Located in a quiet corner on the north side of Yzerfontein where it borders the West Coast National Park. The adjacent Fynbos, pan and vlei area are home to a large variety of birds and the beach is a five minute walk away.

All cottages are fully equipped, ready for a peaceful self-catering stay. All bedrooms have double rooms with double beds and all linen provided. Kitchens are also fully equipped with a fridge, freezer, stove, oven and microwave. All cottages also have private outdoor areas with braai facilities.

"SPEAR CHUKKA'S Namaqua house is comfortable with all the self catering, TV, entertainment and braai facilities you need for a super lekker holiday at the sea. It is reasonably priced so what more can you ask for ?

The only negative for us was the steep stairs which were hazardous for our 1 year old."

  • "Wonderful Easter Break"

    22 April 2014

"My boyfriend and I decided to spend the Easter weekend at Spear Chukka in Yzerfontein. We stayed in the Namib Cottage and what a wonderful stay it was. The cottage was lovely with it's own courtyard and garden, fully equipped kitchen, large bathroom (has an awesome shower) and nicely sized bedroom. The beach is about a 2 minute walk away from the cottage and at night you could hear the waves crashing on the beach. The birds were plentiful! We would definitely recommend Spear Chukka for your holiday break in Yzerfontein."

    14 September 2009

"Dough came to meet us as we arrived. We didn't even have to ring the bell and the entrance. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed. We went to Postberg Saturday morning and saw some beautiful flowers. The lagoon is always a site to see because of the colour of the water. It is so beautiful. We went for a walk on the beach and it is so clean. It rained on Sunday but that didn't make the stay less pleasant. We rode through the village and viewed the houses and the environment."

"Yzerfontein was breathtakingly beautiful and Doug made us feel most welcome at Spear Chukka. It was nice to get local info from him and learn a bit about the history of the place. West Coast Park was lovely- would love to go during the flower season. 16 mile beach is awesome and the shells are like nowhere else to be found.Would definitely go back."

  • "Super holiday!!"

    07 January 2008

"Spear Chukka's unit was so well equipped and very neat. And Doug and Lin were so welcoming and hospitable. The even offered to lend us a gazebo and deck chairs for the beach! We had a stunning Christmas lunch - roast duck and gammon cooked in Doug's Weber. The beach at Yzerfontein is really beautiful and the setting is so peaceful. We bought local snoek caught fresh off the boats and crayfish in Paternoster. The unit overlooks lovely fynbos and dunes but is only 5 minutes walk to an unspoilt beach. Meeurots restaurant made excellent calamari and had a great wine list of local wines (thanks Doug for the tip!). Super holiday all in all."

The establishment is perfectly situated in a quiet neighbourhood, just a short walk from the most spectacular beach I have ever seen - miles and miles of pristine white sand. The birdllife is abundant, the locals are incredibly welcoming and the views are out of this world. Relaxation comes easily."
