Botrivier Hotel

The small village of Botrivier is situated en route to Hermanus and Caledon on the eastern slopes of the Houw Hoek Mountains overlooking the rolling wheatlands of the Overberg. Here you you will find the historic Botrivier Hotel, built over 105 years ago.

The newly renovated hotel offers guests a choice of 12 bedrooms with en-suite showers. The comfortable rooms are furnished with double or single beds and each room opens onto a balcony. This is where you can step back in time and become one with nature again.

"The photo looks pretty, the linen looked clean , towels new but this is all that I can say in positive tone. As a arriving out of Towner... I would of appreciated someone at reception, not for us to be yelling " hellooooo " in a empty space, the laundry assistant ..pops her head out ..."go find the man in the bar !" Lacksadical attitude of handing over keys...mmm...room upstairs... Yes ...off street parking ..round the back .... Seriously on driving round back got stuck between broken gate, badly parked truck..and ramshackle garden ..with many cars huddled under lonely tree... No room there to park... Think it might even be safer to park in the street ! Room very very hot, no attempt to draw curtains from hot afternoon sun, or leave balcony doors open. So you are hit with intense heat as you step into the room. No fan in sight, the shower trough stained , the carpet :think they forgot to vacuum it... Or maybe that orange/brown shag can't get clean! Did I mention very hot room no fan ! And no hair dryer in sight...So we showered, melted whilst dressing... Not much fun going to a wedding and having to complete dress up in the car.! We actually didn't return...couldn't face that hot house again... It's summer ... It's hot ... So we drove the hr back into Cape Town 1am with a very loaded car that we had no where to park securely. We tried and we couldn't give the room away..the young people preferring to camp in tent then go back to hot room... Hadn't encountered the talked about mosquito problem but sure they would of been waiting for me at 2 am !! ... As a small village inn, it has huge potential, it has history, just look at cute photo but without service and attention to detail... That's what It will be small basic village inn"

"I do not recommend it.Use it only as a last resort and only then if you equip yourself with your own fan and mosquito repellant."

  • "Not impressed"

    14 October 2013

"The room was huge, but there were no privacy. The biggest disappointment was that we were greeted with dog poo and filth at the front door. The place does not look like it is displayed on the internet. It is definitely over priced and the rating should not be more than 2 stars."

  • "Sunshine in Botrivier even in the rainy winter"

    04 September 2013

"I stayed at the Botrivier Hotel before a trail run the following morning. As a young girl on her own, this was a daring move, but I couldn't have been happier with my decision. The owners and staff went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a bit of breathing space from the city. With beautiful trails on your doorstep and a welcoming pub/restaurant that caters to regular blues concerts and weekend festivals, this is a modest stop not to be missed. My wonderful visit happened over the rainiest weekend in winter. I can only imagine the experience in dryer weather. This place really is charming and you're sure to be in good hands."

  • "Nice place, small stay"

    07 February 2013

"On arrival I was told I could get the bigger room, which is actually more expensive, but I could get it at the same tariff. Great I said. But... if that was a bigger room, I would not like to see the smaller room! I wanted to have supper somewhere, but nothing available. I enquired about breakfast time, only after 09:00, but by then I was suppose to be far on my way. The screaming cat outside the door was no fun."

  • "Nice and quaint"

"Very quaint hotel, nice ensuite. However it was very hot in the room with no fan, and full of mosquito's."

  • "Fun in the Sun"

"A really quaint venue, lovely staff and an awesome old skool pub. Pity they smoke so much in there. Rooms adequate and the Suntin Shed has great chow!"

  • "Wonderful hospitality"

    18 March 2012

"Absolutely nothing is too much trouble for the gorgeous people at the Botrivier Hotel. I booked for two nights and ended up staying for four I loved it so much! The room I was in was simple in decor but the fact that many of the original features (brass and bakelite light switches, chunky old taps) have been retained gives everywhere a wonderful historic flavour. The bar is a collector's dream crammed with all sorts of fascinating memorabilia and full of colourful characters who guarantee a warm welcome and tearful goodbye! Thank you so much everyone, I'll be back!"
