Karkloof Rocky Lodge is located in the forested, evergreen foothills of the Gilboa Mountains. It offers a self-catering, free-standing cottage that consists of three bedrooms.
The rooms offer either a double bed in the one room and two single beds in the other rooms. They share the use of a bathroom with a bath and a shower. We supply linen, towels and toilet paper. The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove, a kettle, a toaster, a microwave, pots, pans and cutlery and crockery, and guests can enjoy their meals at the dining table. The lounge is comfortably furnished and is equipped with a cosy fireplace; it opens out onto the wooden deck with fabulous views of the Gilboa Mountains. We provide wood and the unit does not have a TV, Internet or telephone. A cleaning service is available on request.
Guests can visit the Karkloof Conservation Centre down the road for birdwatching and there are various activities in the area. Guests can embark on Karkloof Canopy Tours, an annual tube race down the Karkloof River or visit the Karkloof Falls, which is a great place for picnics and a swim in the river. The Umngeni Nature Reserve offers rock climbing, hiking, picnics and game viewing, while the Natal Midlands is a historical site with its Anglo-Boer war history, battlefields and a museum at Howick.
"Loved the quiet, simply, rustic cottage! It was great."
"Gail is a lovely lady. Her dogs are so friendly. Its such a homely cottage with everything one needs. Please put an updated picture of the cottage on your site."
"We enjoyed our stay at the Karkloof Rocky Lodge. The accommodation is excellent, and the location ideal for a short or long breakaway. The kids enjoyed the friendly dogs, and the no TV helped also. We will recommend it any time"
"Nice clean accommodation, friendly hosts, good value for money. Some complimentary soaps and shampoos in the bathroom would have been nice."
"This accommodation was very poor indeed. Lots of flies, most of the taps leaked, broken tile on the bathroom floor, broken window, the owners partied until late in the night on one of the nights, loud music etc, (the main house was very close to the cottage), children rode around on loud four wheelers...I would not recommend this accommodation at all. Anywhere else..."
"The house itself is more than adequate and very spacious.<div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>It is not very isolated and you need to be a dog person to visit.</div>"
"Die verblyf was baie aangenaam en met die braaivuur elke aand was dit prima.Die omgewing en die watervalle in die omgewing was pragtig. Baie bly daar was nie 'n TV nie sodat ons die rustigheid en die natuur kon geniet."
"1. Needs better signage - there was none.2. Needs a waterproof covering on the patio - rained most nights and had to braai under umbrellas etc.Otherwise the unit was very spacious and comfortable. Loved the supply of firewood to keep warm indoors."
