Tulbagh Country Guest House - Cape Dutch Quarters

Tulbagh Country Guest House is our jewel in The Cape Dutch Quarters's crown. Established in 1999, the guest house can accommodate up to 12 people in five en-suite bedrooms and suites. The guest house manor is a classic H-shaped house offering the epitome of grand Cape Dutch living. It has been beautifully restored to its former glory and is situated on Tulbagh's historic Church Street.

The guest house offers three king-size luxury en-suite rooms, as well as a Family Suite which sleeps four people in two rooms with an en-suite bathroom. There is also a single suite with an en-suite shower and toilet. All mattresses are of the highest quality and our linen is 100-percent percale cotton. Most of the guest house rooms have private doors onto the garden and swimming pool, and guests are encouraged to make free use of all guest house facilities including the covered terrace braai area.

The guest house interiors are a blend of Cape and European antiques and furnishings, as well as original South African artworks which create a beautiful eye-catching collection. The atmosphere in the Tulbagh Country Guest House is informal and comfortable, and guests are encouraged to make themselves at home in the lounge, dining room and old farm-style kitchen. Breakfast is always a treat as it is served in the grand dining room on a table spread with antique crockery and silver cutlery. During the winter months, breakfast is served in the guest house's more intimate farm-style kitchen next to a blazing hearth.

Our beautiful neoclassically inspired swimming pool is a life saver after a hot summer's day, and the beautiful gardens lead through to shady courtyard spaces and calm sitting areas.

  • "Cape Dutch Quarters - very disappointing"

    26 November 2012

"We were very disappointed with our accommodation. It was nothing like the website shows. We had an expectation based on a previous stay as well as the website, which was not met. We were booked in to the Garden Suite but upon arrival told we had been moved to a 'lovely self catering cottage' implying it was like an upgrade. We hadn't requested self catering and good luck to those who get that as self catering as all it had was a microwave. The accommodation was in a run down part of the village away from the central B&B area. It was in the back of someone's garden (we had to trek through a backyard, inbetween 3 vehicles, which was mainly muddy soil). We were given only one bath towel. The complimentary coffee was FRISCO! The blind in the room might as well not have been there as the street light shone right in to our room the whole night and then as the sun rose we had that streaming in. The decor could not come close to be describe as having a cape dutch influence. All of this is a far cry from the description of our garden suite which reads as follows on the website: Garden Suite. This standard double room is ideal for singles, although double occupancy is negotiable. It has a Victorian brass double bed, small wardrobe, coffee table and sofa. The en-suite shower room and toilet is beautifully decorated with handmade blue and white tiles."
