Fortuna is a privately owned and managed resort located on the banks of the Suikerbosrand River and the P vd Merwe Haarhof Dam, also known as the Balfourdam. The owners, Bruce and Elize Odendaal, reside at the resort. Fortuna is a mere hours drive from Johannesburg and offers a safe and quiet breakaway where visitors can rest, while there is plenty to keep the children entertained.
Facilities at the resort are always clean and neat, and we strive to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. A big part of the Afrikaner history has also played out on the farm, especially during the Freedom Wars where more than one Boer leader made a stand here.
At the resort we offer a lot of activities that guests can partake in. We proud ourselves in the fact that we provide a serene and quiet breakaway place on the farm where one can get away from the fast-paced and stressful city life. Our resort provides a mix of facilities for young and old, from the always popular minigolf to an under cover heated swimming pool.
The resort features 17 fully equipped self-catering chalets sleeping four, six or eight guests each. All of the chalets comprise an open-plan kitchen and sitting room area, as well as a bathroom.
The resort also offers a camping and caravan area that is divided into 75 stands, which can be used for either a caravan or a tent. All of the stands feature electricity and the campsite makes use of two ablution blocks. 24 stands are located right on the river bank.
Other facilities at the resort include a caf with DStv and takeaways, fishing tackle and firewood available for sale, a pool table, a large and small cold water swimming pool, an under cover heated swimming pool, and a hall for functions.
"Very disappointing! the swimming pools were very dirty and all of them were cold. Nobody could swim. The shop is only open for one hour a day. The put-put course is old and very neglected, it is impossible to play on it. The jacuzzi is also cold and all the above mentioned facilities are only open during week ends not school holidays. Will not recommend it at all."
