Pepper Tree Cottage

There are two self-catering cottages namely the Pepper Tree Cottage and the Blue Gum Cottage. Both have their own yards but are opposite one another and both are air conditioned and beautifully restored. Both are pet friendly with a R50 p/pet fee cash on arrival

Pepper Tree Cottage has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. There is also a sleeper couch in the living area. The cottage has a full bathroom with bath and shower. A well-equipped kitchen leads to a braai-area with private patio.

The Blue Gum Cottage is very spacious and has three-bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed, a cot and its own bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet. The other two bedrooms each contain two single beds and share a bathroom with shower and toilet. There is a lounge, open-plan kitchen and a huge stoep, outside, with a built-in braai.

  • "A comfortable home far away."

    18 April 2022

"Thank you to the host for sharing her quaint home with us. The home is a humble home with the tradional wooden floors and beautiful solid wood interiors. The home is very basic and ok for a one night stop over. As we and I am sure many others use this venue for a one night stop over. It would have really helped if there was tea /coffe/sugar and milk available on arrival. Would have been really great if bottled water had been left in fridge. There was a half used toilet roll and no bath soap, even a tiny soap woukd suffice. We ended up using tissues as paper. It would have made such a difference if we did not have to still go shopping for these items after having been on the road for more than 9 hours. We also were surprised that you could only book in after 3pm and then had to be out by 09h00 the next day. Travelling from far this was awkward, although we only arrived at 17h00. But if guests arrive before 3 they will have to hang around with a car full of travel suitcases waiting to book in. The host was kind enough to allow us to leave later, and we are grateful for that extra time to have breakfast. The bed was comfortable and had everything we needed. We were concerned that the front door handle is falling off and it was not possible to Double lock the front door. This felt unsafe for us. The tap in the bathroom basin is broken and leaked water it was also really difficult to handle. All in all we had a good stay. The facility is really clean and the host very helpful. As a one night stop over it's ideal if the little changes and additions mentioned above coukd be attended to."

  • "Comfortable, warm and friendly welcome."

    26 June 2018

"Francis welcomed us as if we were family in her house. The cotagge is rustiq and beautiful. Everything in the cottage that you need (did I mention the electric blankets!) is included. Follow ups during the evening whether the security alarms are on. Just a complete check whether we were fine. Thank you so much, it was wonderful."

  • "Piekfyn"

    11 September 2012

"Pepper Tree Cottage was absoluut te oulik! Ons het dit so geniet om daar oor te bly, die huisie was so netjies en smaakvol. Hester was sorgsaam en so behulpsaam. Daar sal verseker nog baie tevrede gaste oorbly en dit net soveel soos ons geniet. Baie dankie."

  • "Complaints"

    27 August 2012

"We stayed in 14 different self-catering chalets in August 2012 during our tour through South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. In comparison to most of these chalets, Pepper Tree Cottage is just not up to standard. A few negatives that we experienced during our overnight stay in Pepper Tree (22 August 2012), were the following: 1) When we entered the cottage, a very strong smell of cigarette smoke was present. The towels were even penetrated by the smell. Smoking should not be allowed in the cottage, since many people are sensitive to smoke. 2) When we opened the television cabinet, the TV was covered with dust on top as well as on the screen. 3) There were no microwave dishes available for warming up food in the microwave. 4) The pots and pans were old and burnt inside and outside. 5) The sheets looked wrinkled and used as if they were not washed after the previous occupants. At R600 per night, this is just not good enough."

  • "Pepper Tree Cottage"

    30 August 2011

"What a pleasure to pull into the driveway of the Pepper Tree Cottage. After a long and tiring car trip, both driver and dogs were delighted by the accommodation. Garden for dogs to run free in, and a lovely homely atmosphere for total relaxation. Beds were comfortable, bathroom clean and plenty of hot water available to soak away the stiffness of the drive. Can highly recommend Pepper Tree Cottage as an overnight stop travelling to/from Cape Town. Well done on creating a special home for travellers to enjoy on their journey. We loved it."
