  "We really loved our stay here - Frans and Hendrina were really accommodating and friendly, and made sure our stay was fantastic.The unit we stayed in looked out over a beautiful Karoo vista, including windmills and an open expanse of stunning Karoo, as the Tarantula is situated on the edge of town.This is the perfect stop over on the drive from Joburg to Cape Town, and we have definitely found the place we want to stay every time we travel the route."

  "On our second visit to Tarantula, we stayed in the unit at the far end of the property. With a private access gate, the unit is very well equipped and extremely comfortable. It has its own sheltered "braai pit" beneath a large acacia tree, with a view over a large area of open land to the hills beyond. Wonderfully peaceful and quiet, and the night sky is great for stargazing. Owners Frans and Hendrina are friendly, hospitable and knowledgeable. A well-deserved five-star rating."

  "Calvinia was 'n eerste vir ons, so ons het glad nie geweet wat ons gaan kry toe ons daar aankom nie. Maar was ons verras! 'n Pagtige plek, en dan nog so op die rand van die dorp, dit was net eenvoudig spesiaal. Mens kon eenvoudig nie die Karoo beter beleef het. Ons het 'n punt daarvan gemaak om uit die normale pad te gaan en 'n bietjie ander dele van ons land beleef. Nie vir een oomblik spyt daaroor nie. Tarantula was baie netjie,skoon,veilig en gelieflik. Sal dit regtig weer gebruik as ons in daai rigting gaan"

  "What a find. The pictures on the site are good but the place itself is stunning. The cottages sit in a well thought out layout of the grounds, each has its own view across the Karoo. The beds are large, comfortable and have quality bedding. The cottages are well equipped but we chose to go to the restaurant recommended by Frans and Hendrina. We can't wait to return to Calvinia and stay for longer at Tarantula."

  "This is one of best places we have stayed. It is much more than we expected. New, very well appointed with all the modern conviniences. Large living area. Naturally cool inside, you don't even need the aircon, even though we used it. A private swimming pool and BBQ area was fantastic. At the fence line the green perfect lawn gave over to the natural Karoo veld with a backdrop of mountains. And you can't forget the stars, so clear at night even though you are on the edge of town. I recommend Tarantula to anyone it is a true oasis in the Karoo."

  "Stayed at Tarantula on our way to Augrabies. The cottageis just like it appears in the photo's. Clean and very well equippedfor self catering. We stayed in cottage number 1, and sitting on the patio had a wonderful view of the karoo and mountains. The birdlife is great. Would recommend it and will return if we are in the area again"

  "Best place we stayed in on this trip. Frequently, the cottages do not live up to the expectations that one gets from the Internet. This is the exception. It is far better than expected. Close to town centre but right on the edge overlooking farmlands. Cottages have everything we needed and everything worked. Would highly recommend this venue for anyone staying in Calvinia."

The cottages were comfortable, clean and well equipped and there was lots of space for the kids to run around and stretch their legs on the lawns outside.   "As far as accommodation go you will struggle to beat this. Perfectly set-up for a couple or small family. Situated on the edge of town, you still get the feeling of being alone on the farm. I would highly suggest Tarantula."

  "<p>Tarantula is skoon, netjies, uitstekend toegerus en smaakvol versier. Die lugrelaar was n lewensredder! Die gehalte-toerusting in die kombuis is indrukwekkend en so ook die keurige afwerking in die badkamer. Die ligging aan die rand van die dorp met die oop vlaktes en pragtige berge anderkant die lowergroen grasperk, bome en heerlike swembad, bied lafenis vir die siel. Ek kan Tarantula met vrymoedigheid aanbeveel by enigiemand wat net onderweg deur Calvinia wil oorslaap of wat n rukkie geheel en al wil ontspan en hul kragte herwin.</p><p>Tarantula is clean, tidy, well equipped and tastefully decorated. The air-conditioner was a lifesaver! The quality of equipment in the kitchen is impressive and so is the exquisite finish in the bathroom. The location on the edge of the town with the plains and beautiful mountains across the lush green lawn, trees and lovely swimming pool offers refreshment for the soul. I can boldly recommended Tarantula to anyone en route to Calvinia stay overnight or for a while to totally relax and regain their strength.</p>"
