Lying 5 km from Citrusdal, at the foothills of the Cederberg, Wolfkop Nature Reserve is a 450-hectare reserve offering privately appointed cottages and a variety of outdoor activities.
Accommodation is provided in four cottages blending neatly into the setting, with beautiful views of the Olifants River Valley. Individually decorated with African art and colours, each cottage has a unique ambience. Tolbos, Boegoe and Botterboom have two bedrooms each. The rooms have queen size beds as well as two extra sleeper couches in the living area for two additional guests. Harpuishuis features five bedrooms all en-suite. There are also two sleeper couches in the living area for additional guests.
All the rooms have comfortable mattresses and percale bedding. The kitchen is open plan and well-equipped. The lounge area boasts high ceilings, deep sofas for the obligatory afternoon siestas, and an open fireplace to accompany a fine glass of plonk in winter. Double doors open onto a terrace fitted with a Jacuzzi, while at the back there is a dedicated jungle gym for the kids staying at Tolbos and Boegoe.
You can also spot a variety of animal life, from duikers to porcupine and tortoises; you may even stumble across leopard spoor. Depending on the time of year, there are various flowers in bloom. Make sure you get here in August and September for the classic psychedelic daisy displays. Hiking and mountain bike trails, fishing in the dam or river, canoeing, San Bushman paintings, great rock formations and diverse fynbos are just some of the things you can experience here. And then there's the wider Cederberg Wilderness Area and Citrusdal itself.
"There are 3 cottages plus a larger house spaced out on a hillside overlooking the valley. We stayed in Tolbos, the middle of the 3 cottagesOur favourite experiences for this trip were;Reclining in the Jacuzzi during the heat of the day. Then at night turning on the heater function and star gazing. The quiet and tranquility. There is a road at the bottom of the hill and one can hear some road noise but we did not find it at all intrusive. The bathrooms have large double doors that when open look out on the veldt - showering "in" nature, fabulous! In our cottage only one side had enough privacy to do this.Air-conditioning another big plus. Extremely well equipped with lots of thoughtful touches, candles for loadshedding, some firelighters, dishwashing liquid.A couple of things that we feel could be addressed. The kitchen bin had not been properly cleaned inside and in the heat...Also the internet was down and my husband had work to do (turns out a plug had worked loose when we plugged something else in). I tried calling, sms'ing and eventually sending a Whatsapp message to the number given for manager on duty from 11 am, Monday- did not get any response. Then went onto the website and found another number to which we did get a reply at about 17:00.If we had known that the internet was working for everyone else we could have found the problem much earlier.Unfortunately the messages and calls not being responded to did put a ding in our enjoyment of the stay and affected the the overall rating we gaveThank you for special stay, we will definitely return"
"Very happy with the setup all exceeded expectations Only improvement is the braai equipment. The braai rooster need to be replaced we bought one in town."
"We had the tent and caravan, their was a power outage while we where at the site, nice river though and very quiet."
"The cottage was really clean and well maintained, just loved the jacuzzi. I cannot find any fault with the cottages."
"Bernice, thanks a lot for all your help and warm welcome. My favourite spot to come and relax when taking a break from the city life as we could go on the lovely mountainside hike. while at the cottage. The kids could play on the jungle gym while we relaxed in front of the cottage on the verandah. The cottage had everything we needed to relax plus loads more. Love the Jacuzzi at the braai area with views over the river valley. The freshly squeezed orange juice is definitely refreshing after a long drive from Stellenbosch and your herb garden complimented our dinner tremendously. Will be back for more!"
"It's a beautiful, place to go to if you want to get a way from it all. The chalet was clean.Only downside was I cant handle bats flying inside the house at night and all the strangest creepy crawly's and spiders. But apart from that it was awesome, we even booked a extra day to stay. Thank you Kobus for all your help, to make our stay, even better."
